I remember when I crocheted this sweater for Mom, one of the first I'd ever made. I remember how jazzed I was at being able to match up the striped and how excited I was when I came up with the idea of stripping it to solve the.........I don't have enough of the mellow yellow yarn. Yellow was Mom favorite color, she always said yellow was a happy color. This was a Christmas present long ago, see those really big glasses........remember when those were in style? Made everyone look like an ant with great big eyes. lol
I wonder what happened to that sweater? Mom's gone and so is the sweater. I've lots or loaned the pattern and have looked many times to find and purchase it again. The sweater is a raglan sleeve sweater and so well written, would love to make another sweater or two using the pattern. Though it was crocheted it had the look of a knitted sweater, I thought. I remember the picture on the cover/leaflet that the pattern was in was a woman wearing this sweater in a pretty soft almost minty color. It's basic dc and the yarn used was sport weight yarn............long before we had all the wonderful choices of fibers we have today. Does anyone have one of these vintage patterns? Pretty sure it was a Leisure Arts Pattern.
Miss Mom and miss the pattern.
(wish this was a better picture)

My previous blog template was causing me issues, apparently something in it's code was no longer compatible. I had that template for a long time, like it, as it was a 4 column blog template and there aren't many of those. Using several browsers (Internet Explorer, and The newest Chrome) and using 2 different computers the title of the blog and photo was all smashed together. Gave it some time to see if it would correct itself, it didn't, so quickly grabbed this one, which also has some issues. Will be playing through and making changes. Thanks for your patience.

I'm Listening, Memory Monday
Ok folks, gonna try this Memory Monday again. How's this for taking one back...I mean really back. I don't know when I scanned this, and I don't now know where it is. This was my Kindergarten report of progress card. Don't you love how colorful it is, the stick people, the school house with The Flag out in front? I found this along with some class pictures some time back and scanned them, then had forgotten all about it. Due to computer troubles, the need to change browsers and thinking I had lost thousands of photo's, Dear Hubby did something on the computer which transferred over 3,000 photo's. Many were duplicates like before and after pictures were edited, many were photo's I had taken off the computer and have on disc's and jump drives....somewhere........but among those 3,000 were some real treasures. I guess maybe I scanned stuff and returned them to Mom and Dad? Though Dad's not sure he has anything there...and I feel sure there aren't here. hum....
Hard to believe, NOT if you know me some of the marks above. Though I might take exception with the plays well with others....perhaps the teacher miss interpreted and meant I played too well, too often with too many, lol. Only thing I do remember well was rest time. We took towels to school so we could lay down on the floors and "rest". Apparently that was not a favorite time for me. The quiet kids got to get up sooner, me....can remember being one of the last to get up...apparently I like to visit more then "rest".
So...I'm listening, what do you have to say?
**ps, haven't been blogging, with above computer problems I've noticed my header looks funny...or at least it does to me, am now using google chrome, which I'm not too happy about, much preferred Mozilla FireFox. Can you all let me know what browser you're using and whether or not the header looks right for you?**

Snookie's Story on Memory Monday
Welcome to another addition of Memory Monday. This one picture has caused me to wonder, to question, to ask, and to research for many many hours. Why? The person on the far left, behind the dog had a nick name of Snookie. When I was young my Mother, who's the little one here in this picture talked about a person named Snookie, a cousin that lived with them for awhile. Doing the family tree for my Mothers side of the family years ago didn't answer the question who was Snookie. Everyone in the above photo has past...well, I really don't know if Snookie is still alive or not. But, since all others are gone; to no one to ask.
I have in my possession a child's oak roll top desk that I remember my Mother saying belonged to Snookie. Left to right Aunt Viola who died very young, behind her Uncle Harold (nickname Whitie), my Grandmother who died when my Mother was still young and in school, Aunt Millie, My Grandpa who died when I was very young, and Aunt Muriel. These are The Barrows who lived in Chillicothe, Ohio near The Mead Paper Mill.
Only one of my cousins remembers hearing the name Snookie in her growing up years. When I discovered this picture Snookie got a real name, Mildred Armstrong. My Dad remembers hearing that name, but didn't whom she was. My one cousin who remembered hearing the name of Snookie and Mildred Armstrong thought she was a friend, not a family member. That theory seems to be supported in the only documentation I've yet to find, the 1940 census when a Mildred Armstrong is listed as living with the above family; she's listed as a boarder. It still puzzled me though because of my memories from Mom and in her handwriting on the back of the picture it says cousin.
Yesterday, the mystery was solved. She is a cousin a Watson's cousin. Grandma in the above picture's maiden name was Watson. One of her sisters, Bertie is Mildred's mother. Bertie was apparently married several times, Mildred hasn't been found in any census living with her parents. That part of the memory still remains a mystery. But, at long last I can know whom the owner of my antique child's roll top desk is. In this picture, I think you can see family resemblance too...look at Mildred Armstrong and then at my Aunt Millie(Mildred).....hum...

Mara-chi Surprise
This isn't a picture looking back, this is the type of thing/picture/moment that creates a memory. This was my younger brother's 60th birthday party. He's the one of the left with me in the middle and my older brother on the right. The question is how long will it take for us to look at this as a memory and say...remember when? The questions could be remember when we looked that young...remember when we all got to the restaurant before you and surprised you....remember when the Mara-chi bands played? Or maybe remember the one picture of the 3 of us that turned out ok! Seriously, the 3 of us never seem to be able to get a semi decent picture........so, my bets on remember that one picture where we all looked ok.......where is it. lol

School Daze, Memory Monday
Remember when kids dressed for school? Here's a picture from the way back machine for you. I'm in the middle, pigtails holding my package of school supplies. This was the first day of first grade! Welcome to another Memory Monday.
I sometimes wonder if the very relaxed/sloopy/anything goes as the dress code for school's today is reflected in the relaxed/sloopy/anything goes attitude of so many of our countries young people today? Isn't dressing for the occasion a way to show respect for it, a way to show that's it's different then playing in your backyard, or hanging out with your friends. What's appropriate in clothing, behavior, language etc isn't, or shouldn't be the same for school, as play or church. People should act differently when with adults then they probably do with the kids their age etc.
Feeling old today I guess. This photo was taken in Marion, Ohio the fall of 1956 I think. The awesome part of this is, I've recently made 2 trips back to the neighborhood. It looks very different with trees now grown, it was a very new neighborhood then built, for so many returning veterans. The girl sorta behind me on my left, Debbie I just met up with this past Sat and had a wonderful visit with her, her younger sister Pam, and another friend, Wendy from those days so long ago.
Join us for Memory Monday, no longer will Monday be a day that makes us groan.

I Choose Happy
Today is August 3rd, wow..where does the time go. Seems we've barely gotten to enjoy the summer and we've been seeing back to school sales everywhere. Really dislike seeing them all summer, can't we enjoy summer first. Clicking on the above picture will take you to a very different type of blog challenge. It's different because there's no linky, it's different because there's no sign up list. Never done a challenge without those items, so it will be interesting to see how this works. It's a very relaxed challenge, lol. Relaxed and challenge don't seem to even to together, but the idea is to do it for fun, not to stress. Here's a cut and paste of One Gals Musing's blog post about it.
On August 1, this year's August Happiness Challenge begins. The idea is very simple: "Each day in August you are to post about something that makes *you* happy. Pretty simple. And, it doesn't even have to be every day if you don't want it to be. It's a great way to remind ourselves that there are positive things going on in our lives, our communities, and the world."
Really. That's all there is to it. No rules.
I like finding an icon that will make me smile every time I see it for 31 days.
**Apparently we'll just use the comments as a list to visit from.
I'm not sure I'll do this everyday, as it's been a good number of months of one challenge after another and I think I'ld like to get back to "normal" blogging, whatever that is , but
Focusing on the positive is something that calls out to me.
Happiness is a choice I think, we can't rely on others to make us happy...so anyone needing a little happiness, reach up there and take it. And enjoy it.
Hearing birds chirping outside my window this morning as I type this scheduled post makes me Happy, what makes you happy?
Another thing that makes me happy is sweet memories, so pop back in on Monday for Memory Monday.

Random 5 Friday, It's Good to be Back
- Missed the last couple of weeks, as I was traveling. Hubby, DD and I had a wonderful time. Take a peak here on my traveling blog.
- Getting over a wicked allergy bout that hit again on our return from vacation. We landed in a terrific rain storm that lasted too many days, that seemed to reverse all the good I got from being in the beautiful, dry mountain air of Park City, Utah.
- The work week was pretty nasty after vacation, we were over over booked, and understaffed, and it was a mighty long week.
- Spent a good deal of time working on my mothers side of the family (doing the family tree), and think I've found a lost cousin we've wondered about for years. Posted a long letter to him yesterday and have my fingers crossed that it is indeed him, and that I get a response. Too bad some of these folks eluded me before, Mom would have enjoyed the additional information I found. **edited becasuse this was a scheduled post to say, my cousin called last night-though I didn't get to talk to him he left a message so will make contact today...pretty excited.
These 2 pictures you can tell are from long ago, back in 1951, I was 1 then; and he's now 75. Wonder if he played music all his life??? So many questions.
Beyond the clues these 2 pictures tell us, he played trombone and liked dogs....I know very little about him. Hope that will be remedied soon. My cousin Lee said in his phone message it was good to hear from me. Wonderful start. - Looking forward to a gathering of old neighborhood friends (from childhood) in my old hometown this wkend. Some of you might remember I met up with one girl friend I hadn't seen in 50 years earlier this summer. This is 2nd go round, but a few others are joining us.
This is the picture she took of me at President Hardings Memorial, a place we played often as kids. This will be the meeting place again this week. I love making connections.
I've been very disappointed so few have joined me in Memory Monday, so am trying once again to invite you all. Monday's are often dreaded days, let's make them more fun. PLEASE join me on Monday, post a photo and share it's memory with us.

The Magic of Cardboard and Tissue Paper
Join me in the way back machine again for another round of Memory Monday. Long long ago, when make believe was truly magical. Mom used tissue paper to make a fire place. We had those cardboard ones later...prefab design, but here Mom use a book case and turned it into a Christmas Fireplace so we had a place to hang our stockings and a place for Santa to enter the house. I loved having tea parties, big brother Chuck was playing along. Shouldn't there be a rule against wearing ones pistol at the table? lol Younger brother Mike in the jumper seat. Oh those were good times, not because we got alot at Christmas, we didn't ...money was tight; but oh the magic of make believe. Mom was sooooooooo good at it. She was so very creative.
This was in an old house on Johns Street in Marion, before we moved into our new house on Lilac Lane. If memory serves this was really an old house we rented, there was an open furnace right in the living room.
What's your memory for today?

A Red, White and Blue Memory
It's Monday...Monday Monday, and just that day...are you singing with me. Memory Monday and again something from the way back machine...though a bit more current then last weeks post. Left to right, older brother Chuck, Grandma (Dad's Mom), Dad, Mom, Me and Mike my younger brother in front.
You can't tell from the picture but I believe this was taken around a 4th of July family celebration. Mom always made something for the occasion. I think her shift was blue and white, and my shorts were white with a red and white handkerchief print blouse. Grandma, never was seen in anything less then a dress and necklace. AND she never owned a pair of slacks. The most casual I can remember her being dresswise was when it was hot she rolled down her nylons and twisted them to keep them up.
Remember how everyone had to squint into the sun to get their picture taken...lol My eyes are closed, Dads are close. I think I was about 12-13 ish here so the picture was taken some time around 1962 ish.

Singer Sewing Machine Back in the Day
It's Memory Monday time. I remember when my Mom would sit at a machine like this and make my school clothes. This is a singer treadle sewing machine that now sits in my office a short distance from my computer. It belonged to my Aunt Mary, Dad's sister who passed at the age of 92. The machine is actually still threaded sorta...the bobbin. The machine belonged to my Grandmother before my Aunt. We're not certain if Grandma purchased it new or it was passed down from another family member. Searching using the serial number it appears this machine dates back to 1910, and is therefore 103 years old. I believe with some oiling I could in fact still use it.
I learned to sew, not on this machine; but the one like it my Mother had. You got exercise with your legs sewing in those days as you kept the machine running by pumping the pedal with your feet.
Having this in my possession makes me smile, it makes me remember My Mother, My Grandmother and My Aunt and a different life then we now all have.
My Mom
My Aunt Mary
My Grandmother. She and Grandpa sitting in front of their house. I only have a few pictures of my Grandma. She must not have liked to have her picture taken.

Fabulous, it's Friday
Finally it's Done! Terrible picture with it being cloudy, bad lighten; but was anxious to show this afghan is finally finished. It's a knitted feather and fan pattern with each section being a 20 stitch repeat. This one is named Sea and Sand, Sand and Sea. In the beginning I called it Sea and Sand, but later kept interchanging the names. This afghan has been in the works over 1 year. I found a post from June 4th of last year where I had about 3 stripes done. Now, it's not like I worked on this everyday or didn't work on anything else during this time; but...it's been a long time...much longer then I like to have one going.
And So for the first time in ages I do have a Finished Object to share with you on Friday AND a post for Random 5, Friday Five, 5 on Friday. All badges are clickable, join us!
- Hope you had a wonderful and safe 4th of July. Sadly our fireworks weren't quite as good as normal. It rained, not stormy so they went ahead. But, I wonder if they couldn't shoot them off as high because of that? And or, because of the dampness they didn't last as long in the sky? No matter, Happy Birthday America. You're an awesome country and I so appreciate all the sacrifices of those that made it possible for us.
- Obviously I'm really excited to have the above afghan completed. It's still in need of being laundered and blocked, but and a better taken, but it's DONE!
- More planning for the trip to Spain next Spring has taken place AND, we now have all our tickets for flights confirmed. We've decided not to stay the full 10 days in Malaga (Marbella Beach Area), we'll be there a week then fly to Barcelona via Madrid for a few days, AND we now have confirmed hotel reservations there in Barcelona as well. Gonna give our brains and our charge card a rest before we move onto the next step...which will be planning tours, though I do have a lists of things we want to see.
- House smells so good right now, hubby is making his "World Famous" Baked Beans. We're going to a Baby Reveal party later today with family (normally we would have spent yesterday, the 4th together here at our house so this is combined deal). We'll soon know whether my youngest nephew, Ryan and his wife are having a little boy or girl. I'm pulling for a girl which would give them one of each...wouldn't that be nice.
- Continuing to work on my SIL's family tree, but also pulled out my Mom's side file that I've not worked on in a good long while and am happy to say...I'm finding some of the missing pieces from before!
AND don't forget to join in on Monday for my Memory Monday...I've already gotten 4 or 5 posts written and placed in que. Looking forward to seeing you all, the more the merrier. The more you link and visit the more fun folks. Join any or all of the meme's. Enjoy the rest of your week-end.

Walking Through the Old Neighborhood
It's time for Memory Monday. I've pulled something from the way back machine for you today. This is my older brother Chuck on his bike. The picture was taken on Easter Sunday probably right before or after Church, can't remember that part. You can see from the cars in the photo the picture was taken in the 50's. This was on Lilac Lane in my old hometown of Marion. Some of you may remember my mentioning a group on Facebook filled with people who have fond memories of living there as children...some still live there, though not on Lilac Lane. The bike was new and was red, my brother LOVED his bike. The driveway was gravel and shared with our neighbors The Belvilles (Frank, Bernie, Pam, and Shannon).
The bush there on the corner was a favorite spot for my folks to hide an Easter Egg or two. I think this had to be before Church, after church we would have changed clothes to do the hunting in the yard for the eggs. The trike there would belong to my younger brother, Mike.
The other day a childhood friend, Wendy and I met here in our old neighborhood for a day of fun and remincing. We walked around the neighborhood remember who lived where. In fact we spoke to the gentleman that owns my old house. He owns and lives in the house that was Belvilles, to the left and owns and rents the house that I grew up in, the white one on the right where the BIG bush is. The driveway is still a shared one, but is now blacktopped.

Reviewing a Year of Projects
WOW...our last post for a Year of Projects ....
My Year of Projects List for July 2012-July 2013(see updates in green Italics)
My Afghan Goals:
To complete 12 afghans:
10 from donated squares (9 down and 1 to go)
1.. Summers End
2. Sandbox
3. My Granny
4. Christmas Time
5. Buckeye Blitz
6. Box of Crayons
7. Arapaho
8. Desert Rose
9. Iris and Lillies
Complete Candy Corn Afghan (longest work in progress project EVER)
Finish the Feather and Fan Afghan (knitted), that finally has a name, Sea and Sand
**Sea and Sand in the works
The afghan picture is Sea and Sand, it is very close to finished. I'm doing the last couple of rows of the final section, the dark gray section. Then need to work in end, launder and block.
I did not get the last afghan of the 10 made from donated squares. I lost steam.
The goal accomplished last year, learn to cable. I want to make a skirt for myself using this new skill. Need to re-find the pattern for starters.
**Well it seems I'm already altering in come capacity. I am working on a cable scarf which I never put on the list, needed to practice the cables I thought; plus was traveling and needed a small project that would travel well. The cabled scarf DONE
I want to make time for working on items other than the above afghans. I kept so busy with those last year, many other wanted projects didn't happen. Didn't really accomplish this so much. Seemed there never was enough time to do much beyond the ghans. A few small things here and there only.
Cast on....I know there are other methods beyond the traditional one I always use. I get all tangled up when I try to do the thumb one and so ....do it old school...the long slow way. Would like to learn another faster cast on.
Did not accomplish this either. Egads, I'm not doing to well.
I have a knitting machine, haven't used it in over a year. In fact removed it from my office in order to make room for my antique Treedle Singer Sewing Machine. Would like to set up a space in the basement and use it some again for accomplish quick things for charity, Bridge and Beyond.
Nope...no headway with this either beyond talking with hubby about the logistics of how this might work.
Personal Projects:
Need to block a blue scarf I knitted AND cable scarf mentioned above
Want to try the above mentioned cable skirt
Misc whatever items for DD (perhaps the jewel tone traveling scarf now in the works) and family, made scarf intended for DD, but ..colors didn't come out the way I hoped. (that was the above cable scarf, and she tells me she really doesn't need another, yet. So perhaps it will be donated. Project turned into a Green Sweater which is in the works.
perhaps even some washcloths for myself....in the works
No further headway with the green sweater for DD, never got around to blocking said scarves, and the cotton cloths I initially made for myself, ended up being gifts for others.
So, I conclude I did NOT do well with my list; debating about whether or not to get on board for the up coming year. I went quite a few weeks without posting and linking because I didn't feel I had much to report. We'll see how the sign up goes, and how the wind is blowing before I make a final decision. Though, I'll not lose contact either way, as I think I have you all in my blog log.
Inviting you all with or without yarn to pop back in tomorrow for Memory Monday. I've been enjoying posting pictures from the way back machine, but your memories don't have to be from long ago....unless you're as old as dirt, like me....you may not have pictures and memories that old. Grab the badge, post a picture and tell us the story or memory of the picture, link back here and visit others. Let's make Monday a less dreaded day.

Friday Everyones Favorite Day
Yippee Skippy it's Friday! (click the badge and join Nancy at Rural Journal and the rest of us)
- I'm still working on my afghan, scroll back to see Sea and Sand, Sand and Sea...I keep forgetting which name is correct, lol AND I actually think I might get it finished this weekend. Course I've said that before.
- Super excited with today being Friday, tomorrow is Sat. Aren't you glad I've got that figured out? lol I'm meeting an old grade school friend from the old neighborhood tomorrow. We've not seen each other in over 50 years! Thanks to a group about this hometown on Facebook, we've re-connected. We're going to share pictures and catch up. We both moved away from said hometown and are meeting each other there to walk around in our old haunts!
- Hubby and I've taken the plunge...we're planning (have reservations) for a trip to Spain. He keeps telling me to pace myself and not get burned out before the trip starts. LOL. It's not til next Spring; but there is a fair amount of planning involved and I'm enjoying the planning. We have a week booked, and just signed up yesterday with a travel agent in order to better utilize our points for the flight and additional lodging package....all that seems a bit complicated to me so we're leaving that to the experts. This is our very first trip to Europe.
- Been enjoying the beautiful flowers in the yard and finally...finished my mulching for year. 107 bags! Think I'm getting to old for this type of yard work.
- Asking you all to join me in trying to get a new linky love/meme off the ground. It's called Memory Monday. No one seems to like or look forward to Monday's. Thought this would be a fun, light hearted way to make Monday a nicer day.

Homemade Halloween Costumes
It's time for another Memory Monday post. A look back with a smile. Don't forget to link up and share you memories. Let's make Monday more fun. This is from a Halloween...back in the day when Mom mad our costumes. Left to right, me, younger brother Mike, and older brother Chuck. Halloween in Marion Ohio was a blast.
You can see a small part of the family t.v. behind us. The round shaped screen. Remember when t.v.'s were in fact family t.v.'s? When there wasn't one in everyroom? When it was a piece of furniture?
Share your memories. Write you post, add your blog post link here...visit others on the linky and enjoy. Be sure and add the new Memory Monday Badge to your blog and or blog post, with a link back here. Mark your calendars and come back next week.

Ten Speed Schwinns and Weddings
Hello, it's a dark, dreary raining Monday morning. A perfect time for Memory Monday. I didn't yet manage to make a badge (time got away from this wk-end), and I'm late getting this post up for the same reason; but will try to get things rolling. If you stop in last Mondayyou saw a picture from the way back machine, well here's another. Though this one isn't as far back. This is our Wedding Picture from the local paper. We purchased our 10 speed bikes as wedding presents for each other. Bikes were so popular at the time (41 years ago the 17th of this month), there were waiting lists at stores to get a Schwinn 10 speed. We found ours in a old style bike shop out of town, Delaware, Ohio.
We had the funniest idea that people would be coming to visit the day of our wedding. We had a large box of donuts at my apartment for just that reason. No idea why we thought that. We weren't busy, things being so different then what people now do with their big weddings. We went for a bike ride early in the day, he went home to get ready and I got ready by myself at my apartment. I didn't have someone do my make up or my hair...it was all very normal, very relaxed. My Dad came to pick me up at an appointed time and we drove to Whetstone Park of Roses for the ceremony.
The ceremony was short, casual and outside. The weather was perfect! We still have those bikes, though it's been years since we've ridden them. I now have an old cruiser I ride around the neighborhood; we no longer go on true bike rides/hikes of distance. I bring this memory up because our 41st anniversary is a week from today. Lots of memories in those 41 years together.
Join me for Memory Monday, post a picture and tell us the story. I'll get a badge made later, but for now...sing the linky and let's get started. Be sure and visit others on the list and leave comments, so they know you were there. It will make the dreaded Monday much more pleasant.

Memory, A Simpler Time?
Haven't posted a Memory Monday in awhile. Found this old picture and thought I'd post it. I can't say I remember this, as Chuck the toddler in the picture is my older brother so I was either not yet born or very much an infant. But, it bring back memories.
Memories of what a hard worker Mom was. That roaster on the utility shelf I know she had for many years, because even as teenager it's the one she used every Thanksgiving to cook the turkey in. She still used the shelf too. Here though, I believe it was used to cook a good many things, as I don't think she had an oven. From stories I remember her telling me, she cooked on a one burner hot plate and used the roaster in their first..maybe even the first couple of homes/apt's. That wooden ironing board is still one in my parents house. Mom's gone (4 years ago), and I don't think Dad has need of ironing; but it's still there and when she was living it was till in use.
Not sure what brother Chuck is playing with. Apparently, something came out of the box?
I also remember my cousin, Nancy (older then Chuck) telling me Mom had lots of sweaters when she was young and she liked to get into her sweater draw. Looks like she's wearing one in the picture. Also get a kick out of noticing the rolled up jeans........kids today think they've started a new trend...not so much, What goes round comes round.
People have fond memories and often refer to that bygone time as a simpler time. I don't think that's so, our lives today our more simple. It's far easier/simpler to do laundry now then it was then, likewise cooking with all our computerized fancy stoves etc. Simpler times? Hum

Memory Monday
My quest to honor and remember fond things about my mother in alphabetical order continues. Today is the letter I.
Ice skating. I grew up in the little town of Marion, in the snow belt. Ice skating there was very popular. Outside on the farm ponds, city park ponds and so forth. We skated as a family usually on Sunday and when we'd get home cold and tired; Mom would make hot chocolate and pop corn. Ahhhhhhhh I can taste it now. Great fun. There was a nice old style hardware store where you could trade your skates in and get new-used ones. This was great for growing feet. I was super excited when Mom helped me clean up an old pair that were cheap, polished them nice and white...then we made purple pom pom's to decorate them. There were better than new.
Isaly's Sugar Cookies.......though most people who know of Isaly's (us mid-westerners) will immediately think of ice cream and chipped chopped ham, I think of sugar cookies. Grandma Isaly made them from a secret family recipe. They melted in your mouth much like a shortbread cookie. Mom tried to get her to give her the recipe...unsuccessfully. But, I remember her trying. Grandma was getting up in years and someone else in the family was beginning to make them; they weren't as good. Isaly's actually began in my small town of Marion; though I didn't know that at the time. I was searching for a picture to go with this post and found the history of this Swiss Immigrant Family. To this day when I have a sugar cookie I think of Mom trying to get Isaly's recipe and wishing someone out there had it. No sugar cookie since has been as good.
**The white Lilly is about 5.5 inches across, very large for a Lilly and much larger than it was last year. I transplanted these varieties and they seem to like their new location. They're tall, so hubby got me some nice plant supports for them. They're in the far corner of my back yard, visible from my kitchen window. So pretty.

MONDAY, Monday, MONDAY
This Red Mallow measures 9.5 inches in diameter. I love these flowers. I've lost several bushes that didn't come up this year which is troublesome. I wonder if it had to do with how bad those dang Japanese Beetles were last year. They consumed these plants. These were Mom's favorite flowers, and in fact the starts came from her yard. I have this bright red and light pink ones. The red always bloom first and are generally larger than the pink for some reason. White ones also exists, though I don't have any of those.
Hubby's had an overload of maintenance that unfortunately continues today. First on Friday, the garage door wouldn't open with the opener or the inside button. The track is a mess. The part he needs to fix it is available. That's a relief cause this is an older opener and he was worried about that; but the place that has the available part wasn't opened by the time he got home on Friday after work--and they're not opened on the wkend. So, this job has been put off until today, Monday. We can open the garage door with a large 2 x 4. He moved my car outside in the drive for me. Thanks!
He changed the oil in my car, since the reminder was beeping at us. My daughter's car uses the same type of filter, and her's also needs changed. Not a big job, or so one would think. The store only had 1 filter. So, he did mine on Sat; and ventured to a different store on Sunday to get a 2nd one to do our daughters. She's been here visiting after moving from Baltimore and before moving to St. Louis.
Next up, his car won't start. Now, his car is old, 14 years old in fact; but has been a really good car. Plus, he works only 2 miles from the house, he only uses it for that. He removed the battery, took it some place to get it tested, assumed that was the problem--which would be easy to fix. Nope, that's not the problem, the battery is fine. Next he tried to remove the started, as the maintenance guy suggested that so it could be tested. Can't get it off to test it. Hum...then he successfully removes the starter relay switch and is now in the process of taking it somewhere to test it. Gees.........
Our daughter's been out of town this past wk end for a wedding, flew in late last night; and drives out today, Monday for St. Louis. This is the beginning of her move. But, she's not taking much with her; as she'll be staying with a few friends until the regular accommodations become available. Sometime down the road, we'll rent a u-haul something and cart lots of stuff out there.
Hope you all have a good start to your week.
