We had the funniest idea that people would be coming to visit the day of our wedding. We had a large box of donuts at my apartment for just that reason. No idea why we thought that. We weren't busy, things being so different then what people now do with their big weddings. We went for a bike ride early in the day, he went home to get ready and I got ready by myself at my apartment. I didn't have someone do my make up or my hair...it was all very normal, very relaxed. My Dad came to pick me up at an appointed time and we drove to Whetstone Park of Roses for the ceremony.
The ceremony was short, casual and outside. The weather was perfect! We still have those bikes, though it's been years since we've ridden them. I now have an old cruiser I ride around the neighborhood; we no longer go on true bike rides/hikes of distance. I bring this memory up because our 41st anniversary is a week from today. Lots of memories in those 41 years together.

ReplyDeleteI loved your story. Used to lived on Webster Park, and we'd visit the park nearly every day...wondering if we may have witnessed your wedding, we saw lots. Its such a pretty place to be wed. Getting the bikes was such a precious touch.

Still I hope to sometime soon, maybe next week; but I don't have a scanner, and can't share old photos! (sigh)... Well, as for YOUR post, I LOVE the photo of you and your husband with your new Schwinn bicycles! Really sweet!.. When I was a kid, Schwinn was the only name bicycle my father would LOOK at for me, my brother and sisters. In my mind though, I was always so small for my age, and while these bikes were/are a good quality, and a very trusted name, I always felt like they were too HEAVY a bike for me. Other kids' bikes were lighter.. easier for me to pedal and maneuver, know what I mean? Oh well, it wouldn't surprise me if those bikes are STILL in his cellar! ReplyDeleteNice post. I got married at 1 in the afternoon. I got up around 7, because I was so excited & couldn't contain myself. My dad fixed me bacon & eggs for breakfast & my mom was in the kitchen making coleslaw & potato salad for the luncheon/reception. Our combined families made all the food for the wedding, about 100 were invited. I went & got my hair done, because I had really long hair & I wanted a French braid. When, I got back from getting my hair done, I packed for my honeymoon. Simpler times.
