Lack of Exercise, A Book for our Times

No, I'm not yet back to doing yoga.  By elbow still isn't 100%, but I might try and just see how I do.  Maybe some of the moves won't bother me.  My mileage is down from Aug, from 126.58 to 105.69.  I've been doing lots of fall clean up in the flower beds, so haven't gone for as many walks.  And am mowing less, since the grass is finally slowing down.  Must see if I can kick things up a bit in October.

No updated pictures of my knitting, as it doesn't look much different.....probably because I haven't been knitting as much....did I mention the fall yard clean up? Trying hard to get it all done this year before it gets nasty.  Didn't manage last year and then it was beyond a mess in the spring.

But, when I have gone out walking, I've spotted some interesting things.  I've seen acorns on the grown once they've been partially eaten or broken; but not when still on the tree.  I thought this was pretty cool, because Ohio is The Buckeye State.  Buckeyes are suppose to be good luck.  These are rather small trees along one of my walking areas, perhaps that's why I was able to see them vs a large tree where they're well above my head.

And this Fungus/Fungi totally fascinated me.  I thought it was quite pretty.  Reminded me of tree rings.  No idea what this is called; but I'm sure there must be categories of different kinds of fungus/fungi?

I recently read this and can't stop thinking about it.  If you read one book, or listen to one book............this should be THE ONE!  I don't like to read reviews of books that tell you too much about them, particularly when some people give away really key pieces of information rather than letting the reader/listener find out themselves.........But, as bad as I knew the KKK to be; I had no idea they were this powerful, that involved in our government.  In light of Governor DeSantis and Abbott and book banning, The Oath Keepers, The Proud Boys, The Blood Tribe and The MAGA hat wearers who want to control what teachers can teach, THIS book is very timely.  It's truly frightening, but eye opening hopefully for some who thought the insurrection were tourist having fun in DC.

The book was a NY Best Seller almost over night.  I encourage you all to read/listen to this.  I actually had to join 3 libraries to get it, as the wait list was long.  I don't know if the ebook list was as long as the audio or not.  The book is 432 pages, or 10 hours in the audio format.

Diagonal Buckeye Scarf Done

Diagonal Buckeye Scarf Done! This scarf was started as a Christmas gift, didn't get it finished. Project layed aside, without notations about where I was in the pattern. Argh. Thank you Chris, fellow blogger for coming to my rescue. After the project being dormant and or my work in progress list for far too long.........I used Chris's directions and was able to pick up where I left off. Finished it last night. I did have some issues with adding a couple of extra stitches here and then, then lost a few...though it's not real noticeable...even to me and I know it's there. I like the diagonal slant, I need a new scarf..........maybe I'll keep this one? Would be good to wear to The Ohio State Football Games, maybe.........I'll donate it, maybe...........I'll hold onto it for awhile and decide. Juries out. I have a scarf barely started for myself with luscious mohair...hum....

Anyway, successfully got this project moved from wip list to the FO list. Since last Sunday's post for YOP post this is the only completed project; though 2 more afghans for Bridge and Beyond are in the works. Since the start of our list (see tab on top of the blog for updated and ongoing list), these 2 afghans, Day at the Beach and Blue Jazz make ghans #13 and #14. Stay tuned, perhaps I'll unveil them as there's a bit more to see.

I'm really needed to pull out Candy Corn Ghan as the longest running wip I've ever had....just not motivated.

Sunday with Sandy

YOP, updated in tab above, only thing remaining untouched on list is Candy Corn Ghan, and learning to make socks. Since last week's update have added 2 finished ghans, Baby Boy Blanket in previous post (FOF).

Kaleidoscope is finished. Was pleased with the end size, given how small the squares were to start with, and my limited amount of black in my stash. I edge the 25 squares with 2 rows of black, joined them using the sc continuously across, then added a row of sc pink, sc black, sc green, sc black, followed by a edge scalloped row in pink. Here it is before being laundered and blocked, measures about 44 inches squares, should grow maybe a couple of inches in the process. This will be a nice blanket for a little girl up to teen in a lapghan.

TaDAH! I'm pretty excited about this scarf. Not that it's really even something "special". But, I started it before Christmas...ran out of time, laid it aside. Totally forgot where in the pattern I was and didn't know how to figure it out. Sometime back I posted about this problem. Was debating about frogging it. A fellow knitter, ChrisKnits came to my rescue and left directions about how to figure out where I was. Got brave the other day tried it, and ....it worked. Tank you Chris! I've successfully added 4 sections! Woot woot. Love it when a plan comes together. This has been on my YOP list untouched for way too long, so despite it just being a scarf (small project compared to all the ghans), I'm excited because I'm making headway, solved the problem, and won't be frogging. QUESTION...on the increase decrease row pattern calls for k1, k1 front and back (for the increase). I'm not thrilled with the look and wonder if I do this again (do like the stripes), how different it might be to do a yo for the increase and or cast on another for the increase. Obviously the yo would create the eyelet edge look, but what about the cast on add?

**Plan for the week is to finish scarf, begin working on another ghan, thinking of removing socks from list. Realistically, I feel making the ghans for those in need is a bigger priority then making socks for myself......though I do want to learn. Not very motivated to pull out Candy Corn, since it's not the season; but........it won't be until after we finish our year...**

Unknitting on Monday

Liberty Lace........argh. I've put this scarf aside now for the 3rd time. Pick it up do a section, put it away. Bottom line.............I don't like these colors. I'm wondering what in the world they would go with. Here's what the scarf look liked before the Unknitting took place. Unknitting, negative knitting are words I've come across lately in place of the very well known....frogging it. See the ball on the left, those are the colors I thought I was getting when I purchased the yarn. I didn't know there was purple, or yellow or green.

Now, the question is...........what to do with the yarn. It's lovely wool, DK weight, has a fabulous feel to it. Not sure, but wonder..........what different stitch would make the yarn look prettier? Knitting lengthwise would the color blocks be more acceptable? They'd be smaller groups of the colors, right? Maybe nothing but knitting this on large needles lenthwise would be the answer? Or just plain garter stitch with regular sized needles? Thoughts?

In the meantime, needed a no counting project to tote with....so this is in the works.
First thought was to strip this, sorta a version of scarlet and gray (Buckeye colors). But, as I continued to working, the gray has such suttle changes in shades, doing sections one might not see the blend from dark to light and in between. Leaning towards one gray scarf and one reddish vs the 2 colors together. Opinions?

Diagonal Buckeye

Geess...totally forgot I had this scarf in the works. Found it when I was moving things around in my office. I see I must have needed the size 10 needles for another project and even removed them. Thankfully, I left a note as to the size I was using on the card with the pattern; but...I didn't leave a note about where I was in the pattern. I may have to take this to my LYS to see if they can tell me where I am. I'm not good at looking at the stitch and seeing what I did last...that's a real problem. I can do that easily with crocheting, but not with knitting.

Dang it, why didn't I leave myself a note! I was making this around Christmas as part of a gift and it just didn't make it. Using Lion Brand Woolease, size 10 needles and am probably 1/4th done?

Any suggestions as to how to tell where I am in the project to keep my increase and decrease going correctly?

Buckeye Baby Completed

Buckeye Baby got completed...just in time for the baby shower. Hat, booties, and sweater all knitted with Lion Brand Woolease (washable, soft wool). I love working with this yarn such a nice texture. Was thrilled to find the Buckeye Baby Bottle, Bib, and Binky(guess Binky is the "new" name for what we called a pacifier) to add to the Buckeye Theme. If you click on the picture to enlarge it, you'll see 2 football buttons to jazz it up. Hope Luke (soon to make his way into the world) enjoys his Buckeye Outfit. Here it was in the works.

Continuing to work on his baby blanket, as we speak. Hoping to get this blanket finished for his birthday. Stage 1 HERE.
And here it is at is progresses, worked on squares and joined these 9 in the car on our weekend jaunt to St. Louis to visit our DD.

The blanket is crocheted in granny squares, 8 inches with lots of shades of blue. The lightest shade you see here, is blue not white. Felt like good headway was made on the car trip, so stage 2 moving right along. Must check my blue stash to see how much more yarn I have and what shades of blue they are in order to move to stage 3. Stay tuned.

On the return trip from St. Louis I worked on edging knitted blocks for a ghan for Faith Mission for Bridge and Beyond. Got them all edged, and ready for joining.

Blue Granny Squares Project

I joined my first ever CAL awhile back. Blogged about here. Was initially grabbing whatever yarn was laying around and making squares different colors with no real plan of what to do with them, other then they would go into one of the many ghans I'm working on Bridge and Beyond as a result of Give a Square.

Then decided to make 2nd's of some of the squares from the CAL in blue, my nephew's wife is expecting next month and will need a baby blanket. So, above is the start. She's the one I made the Buckeye Baby Sweater Set for. I still need to post a finished picture....Hope I remembered to take a picture, must look through my files.

Becoming a Buckeye Baby

To be a Buckeye Baby one needs to be born in The Buckeye State, and have appropriate Buckeye Attire. Regulations can be altered at an older age when one chooses to become a Buckeye as long as appropriate clothing is worn. lol

Seriously folks my youngest nephew and wife are expecting and as my nephew is a HUGE Buckeye Fan, I thought I would forgo the traditional baby blue colors. Took this photo just after finishing the booties. As you can see the sweater needs to be sewn together, trimmed and the hats needs finished. Intended to post this a few days ago and didn't get that far. I did finish the hat last night, and the sweater is sewn, though trim edge and finish touches still remain. I need to finish this today; as the baby shower is tomorrow........yikes. It's doable though. I'll post a finished picture later.

I've been busy working on several afghans for Bridge and Beyond, a baby blanket for above baby later, finished a scarf for Bridge and Beyond, and need to do a border on an Oddball Baby Blanket, and have a ghan in the works for a friend. Whew.. Hooks, needles and yarn flying like crazy around here.

Started before Christmas...still a Work in Progress

Buckeye Colors, Scarlet and Gray. This was going to be part of a Christmas gift, but as you can see....it didn't get finished in time. It's basic garter stitch and is striped but at an angle which I like called Chevron. Now that it's sat awhile, I'm not sure I can figure out where I am in the pattern. Errrrrrrrrr, why didn't I leave myself a note. I don't want to frog it since it's striped would have all those separate pieces. tsk tsk...must think on this. This is where my knitting isn't up to my crochet skills. With crochet, I can count figure out where I am and or determine what the stitch is etc. I find that harder with knitting. I keep at it, hoping I'll improve my skills. I do enjoy knitting; but...I can't do it as easily when someone's talking etc.

Did you get all your planned projects done in time for gift giving?
