Lack of Exercise, A Book for our Times

Fun Halloween decorations spotted in one of my neighbors yard.
No, I'm not yet back to doing yoga.  By elbow still isn't 100%, but I might try and just see how I do.  Maybe some of the moves won't bother me.  My mileage is down from Aug, from 126.58 to 105.69.  I've been doing lots of fall clean up in the flower beds, so haven't gone for as many walks.  And am mowing less, since the grass is finally slowing down.  Must see if I can kick things up a bit in October.

No updated pictures of my knitting, as it doesn't look much different.....probably because I haven't been knitting as much....did I mention the fall yard clean up? Trying hard to get it all done this year before it gets nasty.  Didn't manage last year and then it was beyond a mess in the spring.

But, when I have gone out walking, I've spotted some interesting things.  I've seen acorns on the grown once they've been partially eaten or broken; but not when still on the tree.  I thought this was pretty cool, because Ohio is The Buckeye State.  Buckeyes are suppose to be good luck.  These are rather small trees along one of my walking areas, perhaps that's why I was able to see them vs a large tree where they're well above my head.

And this Fungus/Fungi totally fascinated me.  I thought it was quite pretty.  Reminded me of tree rings.  No idea what this is called; but I'm sure there must be categories of different kinds of fungus/fungi?

I recently read this and can't stop thinking about it.  If you read one book, or listen to one book............this should be THE ONE!  I don't like to read reviews of books that tell you too much about them, particularly when some people give away really key pieces of information rather than letting the reader/listener find out themselves.........But, as bad as I knew the KKK to be; I had no idea they were this powerful, that involved in our government.  In light of Governor DeSantis and Abbott and book banning, The Oath Keepers, The Proud Boys, The Blood Tribe and The MAGA hat wearers who want to control what teachers can teach, THIS book is very timely.  It's truly frightening, but eye opening hopefully for some who thought the insurrection were tourist having fun in DC.

The book was a NY Best Seller almost over night.  I encourage you all to read/listen to this.  I actually had to join 3 libraries to get it, as the wait list was long.  I don't know if the ebook list was as long as the audio or not.  The book is 432 pages, or 10 hours in the audio format.

I'm continuing to blog about my 14 tour in The UK, come travel with me, this is an active link.

  1. The fungus is really interesting. I'm sure there is someone out there who can identify it for you.
The book sounds like an interesting need. As for your fall clean-up, I have to do mine this week! We've dropped down to near freezing overnight and it's not going to be very warm so that job won't be pleasant.
    Have a good weekend!

    1. I'm hoping someone will see the picture of fungus and be able to tell me something about it. I stood there staring at it for some time after taking the picture. Sorry you're having the temps while trying to do your fall clean up. Hope you're able to get it done.

  2. There's signs of autumn all around us now. Although I love all the beautiful colours, I'm sad to see the end of summer. That sounds like an interesting book.

    1. I'm always sad to see the end of summer. Fall is ok, but I hate what comes after it. If you read or listen to the book, let me know.

  3. Those are pretty cool Halloween decorations. I just put a hold on that book at our library. They are processing the books in to their system. The book sounds interesting. Have a wonderful new week.

  4. You're right, that fungus does look like tree rings. Neato!
The book rec does seem very timely, sadly. And the KKK's history is truly horrible and fascinating.

    1. Your right about it being sad that the book is so timely. We so need people to see and understand what these White Supremacy groups are doing.

  6. The fungus is quite wonderful. I am not sure of the ID and fungi are not easy, but I will give it a shot later, and if I succeed I will come back and add a comment.

  7. We get a few really neat huge fungi every year in the same spots (tree stumps) and one is a beautiful orange. Good job on the fall clean up. We trimmed all our bushes on Saturday, which I was really happy about. Still have to do all the lavender, after I google the proper way to do it.

    1. I've never planted lavender, but bet you enjoy the aroma. I've been at the clean up now for about 3 wks, almost there, I hope. Too many flower beds. lol

  8. Hi Sandy.
I'm doing some clearing up in the garden too. Just a bit at a time.
The fungus is beautiful and reminded me of a spinning top or the twirling skirt of a Spanish dancer.

  9. Hi Sandy,
I love looking at fungi. Our neighbor had three HUGE toadstools poke out of the ground last week.
    Happy October,

    1. I've seen some large toadstools also, but they seem more ordinary then whatever this one is.

  11. It's good that you have managed your clean up, despite your elbow. I have just hurt my back again yesterday so am having to take it a bit easier. (It's only when we hurt bits of our bodies that we realise how important those bits are!) I have got that book on my wish list - hopefully it will be my next purchase. I need to do some bulb planting in the garden soon, but not until my back is better!
    Best wishes
    Ellie

That book sounds powerful. And, as you say, timely. I do hope that we are not going down that path again.

    1. I'm hopeful David can identify the fungus also. Sherry about thought perhaps chicken woods, but I looked those up and don't think so.

And your neighbors of the skeletal variety? Well, they look fun. I'd hang with them any day.
Be well and keep on keeping on, Sandy.

  16. I bought so many books my exercise is carrying them home. The other day I saw a book on minimalism - how to live with as little as possible. So I did not buy it to save on buying things.

    God bless.

  17. I'm really enjoying the mushrooms this year! So fun to find so many interesting ones.

I will add that book to my list. I just don't understand what is happening in our country. Sounds like it will be a good read for me.

    1. I've seen more mushrooms this year than other years, but I'm not sure why. Some are soooo colorful. Let me know what you think of the book, and agree completely with not understanding what's going on in our country. Don't understand why people can't see what's happening to our Democracy with people like trump and his gang of thieves still trying to take control. People are being brain washed by watching Fox etc.

  20. Sandy - thanks so much for visiting my blog even though I was not posting, or commenting on your blog. It means a lot to me that you cared enough to do that!

I love your fall-oriented post; I have also seen a lot of fungi lately and might write a post just about that!

Thanks for the book recommendation - my son and I need a new book for our two-person book club!

I plan to post this week!
