Well, I had hoped to be done with this scarf by now, but other things got in the way. I have however made lots of headway. You can see I have very little yarn left, so it will be done when the yarn runs out. It's currently 47 inches long. A bit shorter than I like for scarves, so I will have to see how long it ends up, and it may yet be joined to form a circle and be an infinity type scarf. I really like the blend of colors with the greens and browns.
Decided I needed a change from all the WWII books I've read/listened to of late. I really enjoyed this book, despite how sad Frank McCourt's childhood was. I highly recommend the audio of this book, as the author himself reads it and that adds so much to the story in my opinion.
I enjoyed the first book so much I followed up with Frank McCourt's 2nd book and again enjoyed it. His character is addicting, I think...perhpas not if you're his wife though. And, yes I moved right onto his 3rd book. I'm happy to report that after such a sad and brutal childhood, a less than desireable marriage, that if you google you will find he had a successful and happy 2nd marriage to Ellen, the one responsible for his writing his memoirs. And if you google you'll be able to see a good number of photo's of his life.Geesh, no real exercise to note for the month of September. As you may have noted from my previous post, I got Covid. Still not feeling 100%, but am negative now on testing. Was in France and spent isolation in the hotel room. Real bummer, we never got to go on our tour. Between being sick, isolating, and lots of flights there and back...only exercise I've done is a little bit of walking which is where this Halloween yard decoration comes from. I did mow a few times, and got some steps from that. But, all in all...September was a real Bust. 83.6 miles for the month, down from 90.15 in August.
I blogged about France, The Tour That Wasn't Here.
Or at least the wee bit we got to see before Covid enterted.
I read those books and enjoyed them too. Wishing you a wonderful and happy October.
ReplyDeleteLet's hope October is better than September. Glad you enjoyed the books as well.
DeleteI tried to read "Angela's Ashes" about 20 years ago but the horror of his childhood family's addictions, depression and poverty were just too, too grim for me so I quit about half way through. However, I was able to watch the very good movie that was made from the book, although it was pretty grim too.
ReplyDeleteThe reviews I read of the movie was that it was more dark than the book. I thought his telling of it in the audio book made it more light hearted, and his humor shines through, even during the terrible times. I've not watched the movie. Perhaps I will as a point of comparison.
DeleteI read the first book Angela's Ashes awhile back, and now I need to read his others. Thanks for the recommendations.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
I like knowing how his life progressed and think you'll enjoy the other 2 books as well.
DeleteI read "Angela's Ashes" and enjoyed it, but I never got around to the other two. They seem to show up in thrift stores quite often so perhaps it's time.
ReplyDeleteHope you do and enjoy them. I like that we get a more complete view of his life.
DeleteI saw the Angela's Ashes movie and I liked a lot but I haven't read the books. I am sure that all the books are very interesting.
ReplyDeleteI've not watched the movie, but might do that so I can compare. Nice to hear from you. It's been awhile.
DeleteI did read Angela's Ashes but so long ago now I would have to reread it to refresh my memory before I read the others, which all seem very interesting! I think we all have months like your September where we want to accomplish some things but then don't get them all done. Probably the rest was a good thing for your body after fighting and dealing with Covid!
ReplyDeletebetty
Good point Betty about rest for my body due Covid. Just hoping October is a better month all the way around, healthwise, exercise, knitting etc.
Delete-glad that you are now testing negative. What an absolute drag to have had to isolate while on vacation in France, however. :(
ReplyDeleteThank you Bea. Hubby feels back to normal, but I'm not there yet....getting there I hope.
DeleteOh glad you are better and sorry about Covid ~ sigh ~ scarf looks good ~ can always add another yarn onto scarf ~ and make the end and beginning that yarn ~???? ~ Be well ~ thanks for visiting ~ Xo
ReplyDeleteWishing you good health, laughter and love in your days,

Good suggestion on the scarf. I thought about that, but probably needed to have done that earlier so there would be more of the end and start color to make it look right. Just finished it yesterday and ended up joining it for an infinity style scaf and it's perfect size wise for that.
DeleteHi Sandy. Thanks for visiting my blog and commenting. I read Frank McCourt's first book some years back. I do remember how very sad it was. I haven't read the other too. Your scarf is beautiful. Glad that you are on the mend after Covid. I hope you have a wonderful October.
ReplyDeleteThanks Deb, feeling better each day and since writing blog post was able to finish the scarf. Will get photo for the next blog.
DeleteWe saw the movie of Angels's Ashes, and really loved it. I had no idea he wrote two other books! I am so sorry you have been sick. Are you back to normal yet??
ReplyDeleteI need to watch the movie sometime, don't think hubby would enjoy it; but maybe. Almost back to normal, thanks for asking.
DeleteI read Angela’s Ashes when it first came out and found it very depressing. I’m glad to hear his life improved, though I guess I knew that from reading his author bio at the time. I’m sorry you are still not 100% but hopefully this week you’ll be back to normal.
ReplyDeleteThe book was a strange mix of depressing and uplifting. His character shines through despite all his difficulties. I kept wanted someone to straighten up the Dad though. The Dad really angered me.
DeleteThat really put a damper on your trip!!
ReplyDeleteHope, soon, you will feel better.
Thank you Anni. Hubby is pretty much back to normal and I'm getting there, but it's taking longer than I would have thought.
DeleteI do hope you are feeling better. Our son Atticus has had a hard time of healing from his recent bout.
ReplyDeleteHope October is a better month.
xx oo
Carla
Yes, slowly getting there. Thank you. October has to be better than September.
DeleteI hope October is a much better month for you.
ReplyDeleteThank you Lori, me too.
DeleteI just finished Venice Sketchbook by Rhys Brown. Taken in Venice just before WWII started. It was probably one of the best books I've read in a long time.
ReplyDeleteHave you read Evergreen by Belva Plain. That is my all time favorite
Hugs Cecilia
Making note, as you know I read a lot of WWII books. Thanks
DeleteScarf is looking good.
ReplyDeleteSorry that you are still not at your best with your health - hang in there. Not a great reader due to the fact I just read and don't do anything until I've finished that book, so for that reason I don't often read a book...makes sense to me :)
Try audio books, you can listen while you're doing other things. Feeling better thanks.
DeleteI haven't read any of those books, I'm binging on time travel books at the moment and loving them! Sorry you got covid, hope you are feeling better now
ReplyDeleteTime travel, that might be a fun genre to explore. Thanks for the wishes. Making good headway.
DeleteI feel for you for a bust of a month! And what a terrible time to get covid. I hope you're feeling better!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much. Almost back to normal.
DeleteYep, life is so unpredictable and nasty at times.
ReplyDeleteSorry you had Covid. Not good timing, either. Hope you are feeling better!
ReplyDeleteThank you Sherry, I am feeling better.
DeleteThe scarf is coming along nicely and looks fantastic. Better luck in October with your fitness goals and I like your most recent book choices.
ReplyDeleteThanks, feeling better so am hopeful that October will be better.
DeletePraying for your good health and full recovery.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Thank you Victor
DeleteYou'll have that scarf finished in no time, not much yarn left. I read the Frank McCourt books a very long time ago, well I say books, I certainly read the first one, I'm not too sure about the rest. I hope you're feeling better soon.
ReplyDeleteThanks Jo, you're right. Since posting this I have finished the scarf, and am feeling better.
DeleteSandy - so sorry your tour was a bust due to COVID. How incredibly disappointing that must have been. I tried to read Angela's Ashes way back when, but I couldn't get through it. Too depressing. Good to hear things got better for him. Here's hoping October is a better month for you!
ReplyDeleteMany thanks Angie, much appreciated.
DeleteI read Angela's Ashes some years ago and enjoyed it, though like you said, it was very sad. I will have to check into the other books at some point. Unfortunately, we don't have very good bookstores here so have to wait until we travel someplace that actually has a good selection of books on hand. Sorry to hear about your France travel woes due to covid. Hope you are back on track again. Thank goodness for crafting during the down times. Enjoy your walks. Thanks for stopping by my blog again though I've been a terrible blogger lately. Take care.
ReplyDeleteGood to hear from you Tammy, hope you'll stick around.
