Yarn, Yard Work, and Not Enough Yoga...or is it Not Enough Time!

You may remember this scarf from a couple of posts back.  I needed a project with bigger yarn that I could see for something to do on a flight.  I barely got it started, back in July when we flew to Salt Lake, Utah.  I took it recently for a long flight to and from France and have made really good headway.  My lighting wasn't very good when I took the pictures, so tried editing it to show you the colors.  I mentioned before this scarf should work well for a man or a woman I think, given the color blend.
I normally try to work in my tails as I go because I hate doing them; but I didn't have my scizzors or darning needles so wasn't able to.

Have you read either of these books?  I had to return them to the library before I got to read them, as I had several from my wait list that came all at the same time.
The first is a true story, one girls accounting of life in a concentration camp.  Not sure how different it will be than many of the others I listened to/read.  The 2nd is about the war in the African theater which is a part of WWII I know less about so eventually I plan to circle back around to it.

While another book about WWII, this book is a bit different.  It deals mostly with those Jewish people who escaped into the wilderness to hide from the Nazi's.  A girl who's kidnapped at an early age and learns the ways of the wilderness is able to help protect some of these Jewish escapees.  I really enjoyed this book.

Down, down, down.  Argh.  I went backward in August, only did yoga once (was 3 x the previous month), I fell down with planks as well, dropped from 12 x the previous month to 9 in August, fell from 14 walks to 5, from 134.4 miles to 90.15 miles.  Sigh...I'm not surprised as I did lots and lots of yard work.  I did yard work 13 days, you just don't get many steps when working in the yard.  I do consider yardwork tiring and very good exercise though.  September I know will be another down month, as we were scheduled to be on tour in France for a little over 2 weeks...however we were cancelled from the tour due to getting Covid.  So spending time isolating in a hotel room and then lots of time on a plane getting back to the states....well you can see there's not going to be good numbers.  Both still quite tired from the Covid and bummed about not getting to go on our tour.  We've managed all this time to stay healthy and not get it.......lousy timing for sure.

Hoping to have a project or two finished for the next blog post, stay tuned.

  1. Ohhh you went to France!! I hope you had fun
We were on a mini vacation visiting friends in the NC mountains 1/2 of last week.
We joined Healthtrax a few weeks ago. Last Friday we had our first session with a trainer instructing us how to use all the equipment in the senior section. Lots of well spaced equipment everywhere. We hope to go 2 or 3 times a week. Maybe take some classes.

    1. No we didn't have any fun since we got Covid and missed our tour. Just hoping we can recoup the money spent on the trip from our travel insurance. Your gym arrangement sounds great. Keep me posted how that works out for you.

  2. I like the scarf and its colors.
Kristin Harmel's book sounds really interesting!
Hopefully, you still wear your masks to avoid getting covid again.

    1. Yes indeed on the mask. Just so bummed about the timing of this after being super careful for over two years.

  3. I did enjoy that Kristin Harmel's book. It was an interesting plot and then several twists in it as you know. Sorry about your getting Covid and its impact on your trip. It seems like a lot of people who avoided it for so long have gotten it recently. Most of them that I know have had "relatively mild cases" of it.

    1. Right you are about the twists in the book. And the folks getting Covid now are people who've avoided it all this time. A friend told me it was just a matter of time. That eventually everyone would have it. I think she's right.

  5. Love the colors in your scarf. So sorry you got Covid. We've managed to keep it at bay so far. Hoping to continue that trend. I hope you're feeling better now!

    1. Hope you're able to keep it at bay. Thought we were going to be able to, but then boom. No clue where we got it which is frustrating given how careful we've been all this time.

  6. Right you are Ginny about the back and knees. I know I take far more breaks doing yard work than I used to.

    1. Yes Covid really does continue to make a mess of things for many. I really thought by now we would be well past this, but the variants keep changing the game causing more problems.

  9. Thank you for persevering in your attempts to get to my blog. A blogger glitch I think.
Yard work IS exercise. Just different exercise.
Be kind to yourself while you recover from the plague of our time.

    1. Apparently it's a major problem. I hit a good dozen blogs yesterday I couldn't visit because of the code. I'll try them again today. Someone blogged about the problem saying we needed to change the codes in our blog list to fix it; but then she went on to say that didn't work for all of them. I don't know why would need to change codes now, when the links to blogs has been the same for years. Weird. Yes trying to be careful, as I don't have my usual energy level, dam this plague of our time.

I have to not listen to any WW2 books now as I feel we are watching the rise of fascism in our country, saw a bunch of raised hands in fact during a rally yesterday.
I am tired too, and despite my age feel it's emotional. The extreme heat here for the last 2 years, covid, politics, allergic to the vaccine, dh's work, so I escape into art. We might move to France and are renewing our efforts to learn French. So sorry for your missed trip but there have been a lot of disasters lately too... maybe it wasn't the time to go... we always hope there's a larger win in losses Love, LeeAnna

    1. Lee Ann, please don't use click anonymous when you leave a comment. Click name and url so your blog link will show up. I also agree that the country seems to be leaning towards fascism. The right has gone absolutely crazy; but somehow that makes me think all the more reason to read/listen to these books. I have a niece that moved to France, but I'm not sure things there are any better politically. It seems the far right nonesense is not just here in the states. Good for you brushing up on your French . Our trip had been scheduled 5 times, it seems we weren't meant to go there at all.

  14. Yard work is good, solid exercise, Sandy, so don't be too hard on yourself. Perhaps your body has enjoyed the variety of movement you've been engaged in of late. :)

  17. I haven't read any of those book! There are so many books about WW2 and i've read a lot of them. They have to be pretty unique now for me to pick one up. I'll check them out.

So sorry to hear about the Covid. The hubs and I had it in August and had to cancel our trip to NYC for my nephew's wedding. I was down and out for about 2 weeks.

  18. Well, that's a bummer! Hope by now you're feeling lots better. Thanks for the book suggestions; I will check them out. Our book club just discussed West with Giraffes; it's a fun read. Thanks for visiting my blog; the last 2 times I've posted Blogger was being difficult. I just read yesterday that they've made changes but didn't understand how to fix them. I am not very techie!

  19. The scarf looks so nice. I know what you mean about those tails. I have been working on Granny stripe hates and they do produce a lot of tails. Looks like you been reading some really great books, too. All the best to a fantastic September. Thank you for your comments too.

  20. The scarf is lovely, I like the gentle muted colours it will be so warm in colder weather. I haven't read any of the books you mention. It is sometimes a struggle to read all the books you have on reserve if they all become available at the same time:)

  24. I have gotten back to the gym for strength training, but have only gone to Yoga once in the last few months. I'm walking, doing weights, but I'm just not eager to get back to class, which I used to love. It is a different teacher, but that shouldn't stop me. Thanks for the nudge and feel better!

    1. There have been somem issues with blogger lately. Last week lots of blogs were showing up as code, that lasted about a day and half before they were back to normal so you could read their blog and post a comment...perhaps blog reader went haywire just after that. I never really use my reader. I simply visit everyone on my blog list after I've posted a new blog post. I'm feeling better thanks, but still not 100%. It's been over 2 wks, so even with shots Covid is nothing to take lightly. Thanks for the visit and understanding.
