The pretty orange on the left is carrot cake, and desert on the right is a cheesecake something. Bought these 2 pretty deserts the other day at the grocery in the specialty area because I thought they were pretty. Pricey, sorta too. Wouldn't want to get more then 2. Buying these is like buying a desert out. This is not something I would do often; but thought what the heck...we're having a nice meal, a good bottle of wine and we should top it off with a really special desert too. Sadly, they were prettier than they tasted. I won't be doing this again, or at least won't get these again.
While I agree presentation matters, it doesn't matter more than taste in my opinion. Hubby had the cheese cake and I had the carrot cake. Or rather we both ate about half with a bite of the other. You'll note these aren't big, so eating only half, well....that pretty well tells the story. I do think they're art, and they did look to pretty to eat. Is that the idea. You have them on the table, but no one eats them?
Live and learn I say, sometimes you try new things and sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn't.

**Don't forget to check in tomorrow to see about Monday Meme (provided I get it to work right, lol)**
Well, they sure do look pretty. I had a dessert at a restaurant last evening that was disappointing. Fried cheesecake with bananas and strawberries. "The wrap" was soggy and difficult to cut.
ReplyDeleteThose do look pretty. I found out at a wedding event recently (while getting vendor ideas for my daughter's wedding) that most of the prettiest cakes tasted really bad because of the fondant icing. It seems no one has perfected it to taste as good as it looks. Give me substance over bling, though ;) Have a great week, Sandy.
ReplyDeleteTHEY SURE ARE PRETTY, TO BAD THEY DIDN'T TASTE BETTER....THE BIRTHDAY CAKES WE USUALLY BUY ARE SO YUMMY, BUT THE LAST ONE HAD A DIFFERENT FROSTING, AND IT SPOILED THE CAKE. VERY DISAPPOINTING.
ReplyDeleteTHE ONLY GOOD THING IS I HAD LESS CALORIES. :) RIZZI
I've never bought any of those pretty cakes before...I usually make all of our Birthday cakes, etc. When given the choice, my family always opts for the homemade. Too bad your cakes didn't taste better...they do look yummy, very deceiving.
ReplyDeleteThanks all for the visits, and comments. Out of town, will catch up on return.
ReplyDeleteI think presentation is important but there is no point in making something "blah" look tasty. If it's blah, it will be blah regardless.
ReplyDeleteSorry it didn't taste as good as it looked :(
Aw.
ReplyDeletebad carrot cake :(
It really rankles me when I eat bad carrot cake. I would have bought that cute thing as well. Just to try it.
With ya Frizzy, carrot cake is my favorite cake.
ReplyDeleteI have never eaten something so exotic looking, but I have seen them last time I was visiting a resort in Goa, but they were too expensive, and I thought its better to spend my money on something that satisfies my hunger, rather than something that is all show and no substance.
ReplyDeleteAlthough they look really pretty, but since they don't taste good as you described, I would rather prefer something that may be simple looking but high on taste, like a blueberry muffin.
ReplyDeleteI believe in working hard, less taxes, less government spending just as much as you but where I differ, I feel this entire teabag movement is a fraud because if you guys were really about less government spending you would also include defense spending..
ReplyDeleteI have always been a fan of cheese cake more than carrot cake, and the pic here of cheese cake looks really cute, much prettier than the ones I have eaten.
ReplyDeleteI have had carrot cake at various places, but one thing I supoose you people haven't tasted or know about is carrot halwa which is an Indian sweet dish, do give it a try if you can find an Indian sweet shop. It delicious !
