This is the 5th afghan I put together while hubby and I were wintering in Hilton Head. I named this one, Everything. The before picture is below, but oriented differently than the completed picture above. Originally I had planned to size/edge the squares with a dark forest green and yellow as you can see from the picture below. But, I had yarn left over from the 3 previous projects and decided it needed more color. So, I used up odds and ends of the left over yarn to bring the squares to size and make the joining. I think the added colors helped to brighten it up. This of course like all the previous afghans I've put together will be donated. **Edited to add I had forgotten Ellie Foster had suggested Country Kitchen for this afghan. Which is a much better name than Everything. Thank you Ellie!Spotted this cute sign one day while out walking in the shops in Harbour Town. Thought you might get a kick out of it. I don't buy clothes for my hubby. He gets his own, but many of my friends say if they didn't buy clothes for their hubby's they would wear old clothes that don't match. Apparently, my hubby is more capable? Or do my friends just think they need to do it for their spouses? What say you all? I'm curious.
The political climate in this country has not improved. Everyday there is more to be disgusted by. Nothing seems to low for this administration to do or say. And after some flack on this first meme that The Orange Felon admitted to making himself, he tried to convince people he thought he was a doctor because he does help so many people. Apparently, he thinks we're stupid enough to believe something like that. We're not!
This 2nd one is not one he made or posted, but the number of meme's that came out making fun of him afterwards was staggering.
And there is much to be disgusted by with his whole administration.
There was a little festival to celebrate the arrival of Spring In Harbour Town with some cool old cars. I took quite a few pictures for hubby, as he was out golfing that day, but these are the ones I thought were the coolest.
Sister Wife by Christine Brown Woolley (wife #3) was interesting. I learned a few things I didn't know about Polygamy. That there are many different sects that operate differently. The common thread being one man and multiple wives and lots and lots of kids. Some sects the wives don't all live together under one roof, some of the wives actually have a job and work outside the home. Some are more into marrying very young girls who have little choice in the matter. All of it disgusts me alot. Though she ultimately left the marriage, and the church; it's surprising to me how much she defends this life style.
Sisters in Arms by Kaia Alderson gives more background about the The Six Triple Eight women that was made into a fabulous movie. Very worth while read. These women were truly incredible against many many odds.
The Indigo Girl by Natasha Boyd was a fabulous book about how Indigo was such an important crop for SC (Hilton Head area). How one woman learned the process by trial and error against her mother's wishes who thought her sole purpose in life was to marry and have babies. Eliza Lucas, was a strong and very brave woman with lots of guts and determination. I learned about this book while on a tour of Daufuskie Island which is a boat ride from Hilton Head. Our tour guide took us to a small shop where Indigo is made.
The Lies They Told by Ellen Marie Wiseman is a heartbreaking but interesting story about the hardships of those who immigrated to this country through Ellis Island, the Eugenics movement, the racial tensions, the forced sterilizations, imprisonment, and deportations. Very stirring. While this book is a novel, much of the story is infact based on actual facts of the time.

The Republican leadership is a joke. Another nice afghan, good work. Have a great week.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Bill. I keep trying to be hopeful that someone in the Republican Party will come to their senses and put a stop to shit show. Certainly not holding my breathe though.
DeleteI have never bought my husband any clothes. I've never understood that. I certainly don't want anyone buying me clothes!
ReplyDeleteGlad to hear it's not just me with clothes buying thing. Thanks for responding to that. I often feel out numbered when chatting with other women.
DeleteI really love old car shows. So many interesting vehicles to see.
ReplyDeleteWe have now received a tariff on our mushrooms, cause you know he can.
What always surprised me is that the Republican party uses things they themselves do to tariff us in Canada even more.
God bless.
It's so awful what's he's done and continues to do not to just those who were dumb enough to vote for him, but to our long standing allies. Makes me very sad especially with regard to our great northern friends. ((HUGS))
DeleteYou're newest 'Everything' afghan is looking wonderful, Sandy.
ReplyDeleteThe photos of the cars and trucks are very cool. I hope your husband enjoyed seeing them when he got back from his golf. Take care and enjoy your week.
Thanks so much. He did enjoying seeing the cars, and wished he had scheduled his golf differently so he could have seen them in person. He will try to do that next year. I posted them on my favorite HS teachers FB page as well, as he loves old cars.
DeleteSo much to think about in this post. First of all: I like how you've arranged the squares in your very pretty afghan.
ReplyDeleteI like the old cars and especially the pick-up!
The awful pictures that your president posted sickened me. I could hardly believe that he actually posted them.
Thanks for reviewing those books. It makes me sad that I read so much more slowly now and where I used to read a book in no time; that is not the case now.
I hope your flowers all burst into glorious bloom soon. That pause after the initial colour seems to happen every year.
Thanks so much for the visit. You might consider audio books since reading has slowed for you. I too was so sickened and disgusted with the pictures he posts. We've never had such a depraved man in our Whitehouse.
DeleteHi Sandy! Thank you for stopping by my blog. I 100% agree with your sentiments about this administration. Somehow it helps to find others who feel the same.
ReplyDeleteI really like that afghan! I like the colorful ones like yours. You have a real talent there.
I would like to read Indigo Girl. That really interests me. I know a little about the indigo history but very little!
Thanks so much for your kind words, much appreciated. It's like a puzzle to me, bringing these various squares together. Hope you enjoy Indigo Girl as much as I did.
DeleteYour afghan is gorgeous Sandy. This political situation is such a mess! Thanks for the book reviews.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Denise. Each day I hope things will improve with this terrible political situation, and each day it gets worse. It's so tiring and depressing.
DeleteThanks so much for the shout out, Sandy! That's another beautiful afghan. It seems that politicians all over the world are not covering themselves in glory - quite the opposite. What a mess! Thank goodness for the small things that bring us joy.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes
Ellie
Right you are about the state of the world. We have to work to keep each other from going nuts. We have to enjoy the good things and remind each other of them.
DeleteYes, it feels the last year has already been four years of this presidency. We've had more blue dots than ever before in our state...but it hasn't been able to take the whole state, unfortunately. 💙💙💙💙💙💙💙💙 Awesome outings! 💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗💗 Great to see your reviews! and such wonderful squares for you project!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ Thanks so much for your comment. I hear worries all the time from coworkers about this topics. Retired life is real. A new chapter to make the most of.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much ellie. I do hope we see more and more blue dots. We can't give up hoping. Right you are about this one year feeling like it's already been 4. Thanks so much for your kind words.
DeleteI usually buy my husband's clothes. It started because he just didn't have time, when he was working. I was working full-time, too, but had more time.
ReplyDeleteMy late brother-in-law bought all my late sister's clothes. He had very good taste and probably guessed that, left to herself, she would never buy anything for herself.
Too funny. That's a first for me hearing the husband bought the wives clothes. Thanks for posting that.
DeleteYour afghan is gorgeous. I have never driven a car in my life. I am 69 and retired. I do love seeing old cars. I am Canadian and was born here in Montreal, but I do agree with the second poster in reference to either being with God or Trump.
ReplyDeleteI have always loved my American neighbours and still do.
About a few months ago, a large group of Vermonters came here to Montreal to offer their love and support to us.
Unfortunately I was not at the place when they came, but I very much appreciated 🙏 their kind gesture.
I have been to New England many times, and even though it has been a few decades, I have very fond memories of my visits there, and I especially love Vermont.
Thank you so much for your visit and kind comment on my blog, you are welcome anytime. It really means so much to me.
I post on Mondays and Thursdays.
God bless you, and I wish you good health, happiness and peace.
Thank you Linda for your visit and thoughtful comments. Both are appreciated. If we ever get past this horrible administration, let's hope relations between our countries regains what's been lost. We love our Canadian friends, even if trump says otherwise.
DeleteLove your Afghan! My husband is color blind, it is very hard for him to tell the difference between green and brown. Good thing he has me!!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your kind words Kay. That's too bad about your hubby, glad he has you.
DeleteLove your rug you crocheted, looks beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI laughed when I saw that #47 looking over the patient - really! who does he think he is, I kind of can guess.
My husband buys his own clothes, we often choose together, he selects and I give my opinion.
I've tried to add you again to my blog list, but keeps putting the other man there, but has your link - very strange.
It's an afghan/blanket not a rug, but thanks, glad you liked it. He is such a disgrace.
DeleteI love that afghan! :-) My friends at yarn group are both working on corner to corner ones with random yarns. I have very little with me here--it's waiting for me at our new cottage. Working with thread right now to make another hexagon bowl in Tunisian crochet. The current regime is quite horrible. The silver lining is that more people are paying attention now so hopefully the long slog out of this will be starting soon.
ReplyDeleteI think you're right about more people paying attention. Toes and fingers crossed that we make headway in the midterms. Corner to corner ghans are such fun to make.
DeleteWow, Sandy, you have been on a total reading roll! Sisters in Arms and The Indigo Girl both sound like fascinating historical reads for a summer list.
ReplyDeleteYour "Country Kitchen" afghan turned out beautifully—the extra colors really make those squares pop. Also, the staggering amount of memes that come out of our current political climate is about the only thing keeping us sane right now through the disgust! Thanks for another wonderful roundup.
