I'm happy to see so many Democrats won in yesterday's election, and hope things will continue that way as we move towards the midterms.
I haven't worked much on this variegated afghan, as summer really isn't the time to have something this heavy on your lap; but now that the weather has turned; time to pull it out and get busy again. This past summer I planted Milkweed for the first time, and this was the first of 2 caterpillars I saw. The season was almost over before I spotted any, and as you can see the plant was on it's way out. After he ate a good bit, I moved him to a 2nd plant that was looking a bit better, I thought. Then several days later as the cat was getting bigger, it moved it'self to a smaller plant and ate almost all of it...hopefully next year will be a bit better. It was exciting to see the caterpillars. Monarchs and all butterflies need folks to plant accordingly.I finished this book a few days ago and am sorry I took the time to read it. I stopped reading it multiple times and switched to other books that became available on my Libby. I should have returned it unread. Really HATED it. I'm surprised it's rated pretty well. I thought it was boring and slow moving initially, the story disjointed, and the ending DEPRESSING. If it's on your to read list, do yourself a favor and delete it.
This book, How Fascism Works is a must read for everyone. I wish I thought some of trumpie's supporters would read it, but I'm not hopeful.
A very talked about book. A bit hard to read. We all know how horrific Epstein and Maxwell were, but to hear the details of what this poor child went through, as did others........heartbreaking. I hope it's read by many and that increases the pressure on the pedophile protectors to release the files.I've not kept up with documenting my exercise, as the summer's heat kept me from doing much walking beyond yard work and mowing. However, hubby and I spent 16 days getting to and touring France and got lots of walking in. Over our 16 days we walked 237,453 steps for an average of 14,841 per day with our highest day of 19,879. Our total mileage was 96.53 for an average 6.03 miles per day. The balls of my feet actually got sore, felt almost bruised. I think it was all the cobblestone, and uneven terrain. I'll be blogging about the trip with lots of pictures once I get them all edited.
Been ages since I've blogged, must get back into and look forward to visiting all your blogs to catch up.

I have been checking to see if you are back to blogging and am so excited to see a post from you. Sounds like your trip to France was wonderful.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Thanks for checking on me, I appreciate it. France was wonderful.
DeleteWe started growing milkweed a few years ago and have enjoyed it. It’s supposed to be poisonous to lantern flies, which have become invasive, so another positive.
ReplyDeleteI didn't know that about lantern flies, thanks for the info. Thanks for the visit.
DeleteLovely to see a post from you! I hope you had a lovely vacation in France. Sounds like you did a lot of walking while over there. Welcome back!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the welcome back, it's good to catch up with folks. I've missed it.
DeleteGlad to see you back with us again, Sandy. I hope that you are going to share more details of your visit to France. We are all cheering the Democrats’ victories. Perhaps the tide is starting to turn. All the best - David
ReplyDeleteThanks so much David, it's good to be back and I will indeed be blogging about my trip to France. Let's hope this really is the beginning of big beautiful blue wave.
DeleteGood to see you back, thank you for popping by my last post. I'm looking forward to hearing more of your visit to France:)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the visit Rosie, it's good to be back and catch up with folks. Stay tuned about France.
Delete...Sandy do you think that Trump read How Fascism Works? Of course not, he doesn't read. It nice to see you pop up on my reader list.
ReplyDeleteNo, you're right he doesn't read. But, I'm trying to be hopeful after the last elections that some of his supporters are now being affected by his horrible policies that they might read it.
DeleteIt sounds like you had a good trip to France. We all need good things to focus on to balance out the rest of it!
ReplyDeleteBest wishes
Ellie
Indeed we do Ellie. There is much going on that's very unsettling and to keep our sanity, we need good things to help balance things out.
DeleteDon't we all hate it when we feel compelled to finish a book that we don't like :(
ReplyDelete16 days walking around France...I look forward to your posts about the trip.
Bingo on the book. Sometimes I force myself to finish, sometimes I don't. So many good books it seems silly to keep reading one that isn't enjoyable. I'm working on editing my pictures from France in order to blog about the trip.
DeleteOooo I so thank you for honesty, for values, for coming back to blogging. Love, LeeAnna at notafraidofcolor
ReplyDeleteMad Respect!
Thank you Lee Ann, please don't post anonymous. Use name and url
DeleteHi dear Sandy, thank you so much for your visit and kind comment on my blog today! I post on Mondays and Thursdays, and you are most welcome! I appreciate you letting me know that you are back blogging again, I am so happy to see your post!
ReplyDeleteIt is wonderful to see you back! Warm greetings to you from a 69 year old retired lady living in Montreal, Canada!
Good to hear from you as well. Love my northern neighbors. Ignore as best you can the orange bafoon.
DeleteI'm so glad you are back to blogging!! Wow, you did some serious walking! I can't wait to see your photos of France!! Giuffrie's book has the saddest title I have ever heard. I saw an interview on T.V. with the woman who she wrote it with.
ReplyDeleteAgree the book title is quite sad and really says a lot in my opinion. I saw part of the interview you're talking about. I hope lots of folks saw it and read the book. Been working on editing my photo's in order to blog about France.
DeleteHow wonderful to have that time in France! Blue has always been my favorite color. 😉 I need to keep up with your blog better!
ReplyDeleteThank you Nellie, I'm looking forward to posting about France, working my way through so many photo's.
DeleteWow, that is a lot of walking, it's good you can do that many steps.
ReplyDeleteGood to see you back blogging.
I bought a new Kindle today because my old one is 16 years old and of course you can't get to the Store with it anymore and I wanted to read Nobody's Girl, so far it's excellent, poor child.
Take care.
Poor child is right. So sad, and so wrong on so many levels. I hope her shining a light on it helps lots of others. Fingers crossed some of the low life adults get held accountable. Enjoy your new Kindle. Mine is older too, but not as old. So far so good for me.
DeleteWelcome back. Your holiday sounds energetic, but enjoyable.
ReplyDeleteThanks, it's good to be back. And your right the trip was energetic.
DeleteSandy welcome back. I agree the summer heat was miserable on this side of the pond. One of the many reasons we finally joined the gym. It offers so many forms of exercise with equipment, a pool, and a lovely out of doors trail on the property with a small lake. I will be walking that trail this fall.
ReplyDeleteHugs Cecilia
I'm pea green with envy that your gym has so much. Ours has machines and an indoor pool; but outside trails. Enjoy yourself. Good to hear from you.
DeleteOh, I am so looking forward to your photos and blogs about your trip! That was a lot of walking, though. You did well there.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by my blog. I will be back to visit here soon.
Nice to hear from you Granny Sue. I'm working on editing photo's and should be ready to blog about the tour pretty soon.
DeleteIt's more important than ever that people understand how fascism works. But its supporters don't want to know, they're too busy trying to institute it.
ReplyDeleteSadly you're 2,000% right. My hope is that some who are starting to have things effect them, be it high costs, no insurance, loss of a friend, family or co-worker who's been disappeared ....maybe they'll begin to see and read.
DeleteHappy to see you're back! I just read Nobody's Girl and will share my full review on my November mini reviews post. 100% agree with you that more people need to read it. Why won't they release the files? And do you think she died by suicide or was she murdered?
ReplyDeleteI was eying The Boy from the North Country, but i don't like Bob Dylan, so wasn't sure how I felt about the book. LOL
I think she was murdered. I don't think after so much in her life improved and she was making headway with the book and getting things out in the public that she killed herself. I doubt though we'll ever know. Maybe the same person who got to Epstein got to her? I'm not a Dylan fan either. Not sure his mention added anything to the book. Look forward to your full review. I don't tend to do full reviews, don't want to give too much away.
DeleteGlad to see you back, Sandy. Looking forward to seeing and hearing about your trip to France. That was a lot of steps by the way. 😊
ReplyDeleteThank you, been working my way through and editing pictures.
DeleteHi, it is great to see a post from you Sandy. I have missed you.
ReplyDeleteI always enjoy your book reviews.
I enjoyed reading your monarch tales... so much fun to have joy like that in the garden. You are right we all need to be doing our part.
Thank you, good to hear from you as well. Looking forward to next year and hoping I'll have more Monarch tales. Fingers crossed.
DeleteThat's a lot of walking! Sounds like a fun trip. Welcome back to the blogopsphere.
ReplyDelete(and I drive by that pumpkin patch every couple of weeks - that's how I spotted it. :-) )
Thanks, it's good to be back.
DeleteWelcome back to blogging. Thank you for visiting my Blog. God bless you.
ReplyDeleteThank you Victor, much appreciated.
DeleteGlad to see you blogging again. Oh, I'm the same, I start a book and continue with it even when I'm not loving it, I hate to be beaten. I know life's too short and there's plenty of great books out there but I continue with it anyway. Wow, that's a lot of steps. There's always plenty of walking to be done when away on holiday, we had a three night trip to Copenhagen at the beginning of October and walked thirty seven miles while we were there. It wasn't as though anything we saw was far away either, that was just plodding round the city.
ReplyDeleteYou're right about the walking when you're on holiday. I had hoped to continue it here, but the weather has had other ideas.
DeleteWelcome back to blog land, Sandy, and thank you for the comment on my recent Zippo post. We recently returned from an 8-day trip to Portugal, also walking on cobblestones so I know what you mean about sore feet😕. And, like yourself also have a lot to do with going through travel photos. It’s fun taking them, but organization takes time.
ReplyDeleteI may need to pick your brain, as Portugal is next for us. Just reserved a spot a few days ago for a tour there next October.
DeleteHello Sandy,
ReplyDeleteWe too have just returned to the Blogosphere and how lovely it is to read so many warm welcomes in your comments. We have followed to keep up with your posts.
We do know what you mean about feeling obliged to finish a book which one has started even though one lost interest after the first page. This must be a strange throwback to childhood when the mantra was ..."now you've started, finish",
We have not read 'Nobody's Girl' but we have read 'Entitled' by Andrew Lownie which has also been very much in the press and deals with the ex-Duke and ex-Duchess of York. Andrew is known to us and we had occasion to meet with him recently and talk about the book. It would seem that there are many cover-ups going on regarding the Yorks, Epstein etc.etc.and there is much more yet to be released....Prince Philip is next..
Thanks for the visit. Will add you to my blog list. And am adding Entitled by Andrew Lownie to my book list. Thanks for the recommendation.
DeleteYour afghan will be gorgeous! Definitely not a summer project, but it's nice that it's there waiting for you to pick up. Jason Stanley's book is very important. I haven't read that one, but I have one called Fascism in America with a chilling cover. It's an excellent read, but probably not as readable as Stanley's book is.
ReplyDeleteHi Shari, thanks for the visit. I'll get you added to my blog list. Will make a note about Fascism in America; by reading list is growing soooooo fast.
DeleteIt's great to see you again Sandy. Always.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'm often bewildered by things like that Boy from the North book - so popular, yet lousy. That is to say, I trust your judgement. Thank you.
Be well and keep a smile.
