I'm happy to see so many Democrats won in yesterday's election, and hope things will continue that way as we move towards the midterms.
I haven't worked much on this variegated afghan, as summer really isn't the time to have something this heavy on your lap; but now that the weather has turned; time to pull it out and get busy again.This past summer I planted Milkweed for the first time, and this was the first of 2 caterpillars I saw. The season was almost over before I spotted any, and as you can see the plant was on it's way out. After he ate a good bit, I moved him to a 2nd plant that was looking a bit better, I thought. Then several days later as the cat was getting bigger, it moved it'self to a smaller plant and ate almost all of it...hopefully next year will be a bit better. It was exciting to see the caterpillars. Monarchs and all butterflies need folks to plant accordingly.I finished this book a few days ago and am sorry I took the time to read it. I stopped reading it multiple times and switched to other books that became available on my Libby. I should have returned it unread. Really HATED it. I'm surprised it's rated pretty well. I thought it was boring and slow moving initially, the story disjointed, and the ending DEPRESSING. If it's on your to read list, do yourself a favor and delete it.This book, How Fascism Works is a must read for everyone. I wish I thought some of trumpie's supporters would read it, but I'm not hopeful. A very talked about book. A bit hard to read. We all know how horrific Epstein and Maxwell were, but to hear the details of what this poor child went through, as did others........heartbreaking. I hope it's read by many and that increases the pressure on the pedophile protectors to release the files.I've not kept up with documenting my exercise, as the summer's heat kept me from doing much walking beyond yard work and mowing. However, hubby and I spent 16 days getting to and touring France and got lots of walking in. Over our 16 days we walked 237,453 steps for an average of 14,841 per day with our highest day of 19,879. Our total mileage was 96.53 for an average 6.03 miles per day. The balls of my feet actually got sore, felt almost bruised. I think it was all the cobblestone, and uneven terrain. I'll be blogging about the trip with lots of pictures once I get them all edited. Been ages since I've blogged, must get back into and look forward to visiting all your blogs to catch up.

DeleteWe started growing milkweed a few years ago and have enjoyed it. It’s supposed to be poisonous to lantern flies, which have become invasive, so another positive.

ReplyDeleteNo, you're right he doesn't read. But, I'm trying to be hopeful after the last elections that some of his supporters are now being affected by his horrible policies that they might read it.

Bingo on the book. Sometimes I force myself to finish, sometimes I don't. So many good books it seems silly to keep reading one that isn't enjoyable. I'm working on editing my pictures from France in order to blog about the trip.

I bought a new Kindle today because my old one is 16 years old and of course you can't get to the Store with it anymore and I wanted to read Nobody's Girl, so far it's excellent, poor child.

DeleteSandy welcome back. I agree the summer heat was miserable on this side of the pond. One of the many reasons we finally joined the gym. It offers so many forms of exercise with equipment, a pool, and a lovely out of doors trail on the property with a small lake. I will be walking that trail this fall.

ReplyDeleteI was eying The Boy from the North Country, but i don't like Bob Dylan, so wasn't sure how I felt about the book. LOL
I think she was murdered. I don't think after so much in her life improved and she was making headway with the book and getting things out in the public that she killed herself. I doubt though we'll ever know. Maybe the same person who got to Epstein got to her? I'm not a Dylan fan either. Not sure his mention added anything to the book. Look forward to your full review. I don't tend to do full reviews, don't want to give too much away.

DeleteGlad to see you blogging again. Oh, I'm the same, I start a book and continue with it even when I'm not loving it, I hate to be beaten. I know life's too short and there's plenty of great books out there but I continue with it anyway. Wow, that's a lot of steps. There's always plenty of walking to be done when away on holiday, we had a three night trip to Copenhagen at the beginning of October and walked thirty seven miles while we were there. It wasn't as though anything we saw was far away either, that was just plodding round the city.

We do know what you mean about feeling obliged to finish a book which one has started even though one lost interest after the first page. This must be a strange throwback to childhood when the mantra was ..."now you've started, finish",
We have not read 'Nobody's Girl' but we have read 'Entitled' by Andrew Lownie which has also been very much in the press and deals with the ex-Duke and ex-Duchess of York. Andrew is known to us and we had occasion to meet with him recently and talk about the book. It would seem that there are many cover-ups going on regarding the Yorks, Epstein etc.etc.and there is much more yet to be released....Prince Philip is next..

DeleteYour afghan will be gorgeous! Definitely not a summer project, but it's nice that it's there waiting for you to pick up. Jason Stanley's book is very important. I haven't read that one, but I have one called Fascism in America with a chilling cover. It's an excellent read, but probably not as readable as Stanley's book is.
