Desert Nights is the name I came up with for this one. Colors change in the desert based on the light and time of the day, oranges various shades of dark dark red,, brown and sky. I;m pretty sure I don't have enough of any of the 3 colors that go with these squares/pieces parts. On the left is a very dark maroon, a teal-ish blue, and tangerine. There are 30 squares, so my plan is to edge for size 10 squares in each color, and then join with the teal-ish blue, as I have the most of it.The plan of 10 squares with each color worked. It's now drying/being blocked after being laundered. I ended up laundering it twice, as some of this yarn wasn't all that soft. Figured laundering would help to soften it a bit. This is the 5th one I've put together since January. I brought one more pile of squares to work on while we're wintering away.
In these crazy times, I had to get this picture of hope. The American and Canadian flag being flown at the same establishment. This is a small bike shop here on Hilton Head Island. With all the crap The FELON has been doing, some of our Canadian friends were feeling very unwanted here. They've been coming here for many many years and typically spend about 5 weeks here in the winter months. They were bad mouth by a couple of loud mouth MAGA cult members during one of our wine and cheese socials a few weeks back which upset many of us. When it was time for them to return home, they indicated they might not return next year. This makes me very sad. The MAGA cult people are very narrow minded and bigoted in my opinion. I spotted these flags just a few days later. It made me smile and gives me hope. So, I sent the picture to my Canadian friend.
I want to encourage you all to read this book. The audio version is read by the author, Tia Levings. This is her true story. A perfect example of how horrible the far right is, is my opinion. Her escape from Christian Patriarchy. She was physically and mentally abused in a cult disguised as religion. In this terrible times of the far right trying to take over our government, our daily lives, our media etc, the book is quite compelling. It made me wonder if this isn't part of the reason The FELON was elected. Some of these far right cult groups do not permit their wives to vote, or only permit them to vote if they vote the way the husband tells them to. I can't help but wonder how many women fall into this category.. I also wonder how anyone feels this is any different than men controlling woman in the Middle East.Another Kristin Hannah book to put on your list. A shaky marriage is tested further when the wife is deployed to a war zone. The husband has never been proud of his wives service, part of the reason the marriage has gotten of the rails.. Also, another example of how men are deemed heroic but when a woman does the same thing, they're not treated equally. While I've known the name James Patterson, I've not read one of his books before. Also, mysteries aren't my usual choice of genre to read. However, I really enjoyed this book. A good who dun it, within struggles of the rich and famous and those who aren't. Walking in February: 290,232 steps total (up from Jan 266,463). Average 10,365 steps per day (up from 8595 in January). I didn't add up miles in January, but did in February. Miles total ws 126.03 for an average of 4.5 per day. Am pleased I was able to get more walking in. My best day was Feb 21st 17,433 steps, 7.36 miles.Planks in February: 19 planks in February (up from 16 in January).
Leg lifts: Fell off, only 6 in Feb whereas I did them 10 days in January.
I am beyond disgusted with how President Zelensky was treated by The Hillbilly and The FELON. I really do think there's something to the thought that The FELON is an agent for Russia. I have the book, "American Kompromat" by Craig Unger on a hold through the Libby Library App. Hope I don't have to wait too long to get it.
You are making lots of beautiful squares, they will look very nice when they are connected. My wife does the squares too and made herself a jacket and a poncho.
ReplyDeleteCool idea to make a poncho and jacket with the squares. The squares were donated to me, and once I put them together they're all donated to Homeless Families Foundation.
DeleteAnother lovely blanket! Do you keep them for yourself or gift/donate them?
ReplyDeleteThank you for speaking up. And for the book recommendations.
I am very impressed by your walking. Well done!
All the afghans are donated to The Homeless Family Foundation. Thanks so much for your kind words.
DeleteA Well Trained Wife sounds very interesting, thank you for sharing. I listened to a couple podcast interviews of women that were in religious cults.
ReplyDeleteThese religious cults are very scary. The brain washing is substantial. If you read the book, let me know what you think.
DeleteYou've reviewed some promising books. The whole "dominated wife" thing is old as the hills yet it continues.
ReplyDeleteIt's sad.
Your blankets are so colourful and I love that you're making them for homeless folks.
Thanks for posting those flags side by side. What's happening between our countries is also very sad.
Totally agree with you about the dominated wife, it's disgusting. And doing it as part of a religious cult even more so. Thank you for the sweet comments about my blankets. What's happening between ad US and Canada breaks my heart and it's all because of one idiot man with a temper and control issues.
DeleteOh, such a great post. You are so creative. And so brave. Thanks for your political commentary too. Along with the wonderful book reviews. Thanks also for taking the time to read me and your comment. All the best to a productive March!
ReplyDeleteThank you ellie. I didn't used to post much political stuff here on my blog, but I feel like it's really important to given the horrific state of things with this horrible administration.
DeleteYou are doing an amazing job with those afghans - another lovely one to help keep someone warm. The world is indeed a scary place at the moment. We can only lead by our own example and hope that goodness will overcome in the end.
ReplyDeleteBest wishes
Ellie
I too hope the good will overcome; but I fear it may get worse before that happens. I loath everything he's doing to our country and the world right now. Thanks for the kinds words about my afghans.
DeleteSandy I love the latest Afghan...I saw in a comment above that you donate them! Wonderful. I started reading James Patterson years and years ago when he wrote Alex Cross series.
ReplyDeleteHugs Cecilia
Thanks for the compliment. I'll have to check out the Alex Cross Series.
DeleteOne wonders what next the POTUS will come up with. He's destroying the USA. We watch with horror and sympathy.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the sympathy, We watch in horror as well. Each day it's something.
DeleteI think it’s a given, Sandy, that fewer and fewer Canadians are going to be visiting the United States. It’s happening now and the pace will only accelerate.
ReplyDeleteAgreed David. So sad that one man can make things so awful. I don't understand why people listen and side with him. So disgusting.
DeleteA lot of Canadian snowbirds will not be returning to the USA anymore. Regular vacation flights from Canada to the US are already down 25%. We are being encouraged to spend our travel money here at home instead and lots of people are going to do it.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I've read that too about the airlines. Don't blame Canadians at all. Just so sick of the orange Felon and the horrible things he's doing and saying.
DeleteI do like your squares.
ReplyDeleteMaga Cult I didn't know what it was as I'm from down under as you know. I looked it up and now I totally understand. I'm with the Canadians and it lovely to see the two flags together there on the house. He is certainly trying to make some changes, and if he can't get his way he is brutal.
He is indeed brutal and the changes are hurting so many people. I fear it will get worse each and everyday.
DeleteThank you for the hopeful photo of our countries' respective flags.
ReplyDeleteHave a peaceful, fun St. Patrick's week, Sandy.
The flags do give us hope, but ....is it enough? Everyday he does something disgraceful, and generally illegal and damaging. Fingers and toes crossed.
DeleteGlad you enjoyed the James Patterson book. I have read a few of his books and have not been disappointed. I will look out for the one you read. Again, beautiful squares for your current Afghan blanket. It will make someone very happy to receive it when you finish working on it. Sending hugs to you from across the water.
ReplyDeleteThe you, the 2nd picture is the afghan finished, so just waiting to be donated. I need to check out other James Patterson books.
Delete...Sandy, it easy to these as bleak days, but we need to find hope in hopeless times, resist.
ReplyDeleteIt's been a tough start to the year, hasn't it? I keeps seeing little glimmers of hope, of resistance, of people doing the right thing--this all keeps me going. And books. I am reading like it's my job. I'll add 'A Well Trained Wife' to my ever growing TBR!
ReplyDeleteI know many "snowbirds" that will not be returning due to the way they were treated at one point. While they and I know it's not everyone, I am afraid that visiting the States is out of the question as long as the orange menace is in power. We are really getting tired of tariffs, and then no extra tariffs. Keeps us up here on edge.
ReplyDeleteLove the newest blanket.
God bless.
It's a sad state of affairs he's led us to isn't it? Not only has division been sown in the US, but now it is our connection with Canada. It makes me want to weep.
ReplyDeleteI love the colours of the squares you are knitting. They'll look good together.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Another lovely blanket. You read some very interesting books which really make you think and look at the world we're living in.
ReplyDeleteI don't understand the logic of our so-called "stable genius" placing tariffs on Canada and calling them unpleasant things. Our neighbors and one of our closest allies. It just baffles me.
