Pink Petals is ready to be joined. Squares are all sized, and edged and the squares are tied together. I had to put this away as we prepared to leave for a tour of Sicily. Then after return the massive job of fall clean up of all the flower beds awaited. So, am finally pulling this back out in hopes of crocheting it together in the coming week.
Sicily was fantastic. I'm blogging about our tour, HERE.
Because we don't want to go crazy we need humor.Saw this the other day during one of my walks, and couldn't resist not taking a picture.
While this is humorous, his rant about Arnold Palmer was pretty disgusting. The Orphan Collector takes place in the slums of Philly in 1918. This German immigrant faces anti-immigrant sentiment alone, as her father is off to war (to prove his allegiance to his new country), the Spanish flu hits. One day she's a young girl, the next she is charged with caring for her baby brother. So much turmoil, so much growing up to do over night. Her spirit is truly amazing.
The Phoenix Crown takes place in San Francisco. The paths of two unlikely subjects, Gemma a soprano and Suling a Chinatown embroideress amid the confusion and destruction of the San Francisco Earthquake. Toss in some romance with a railroad magnet and you have lots of excitement and intrigue.Another fun Elin Hilderbrand book. I'm soon going to have non left to read which makes me sad. But, summer has come to an end so perhaps the timing is right. You might recognize this title, as there was a movie with Nicole Kidman. I read/listened to the book long before watching the movie and I thought the movie left out some very good background. A wedding, expensive beach front venue......but a body is discovered. So many suspects, and who's sleeping with who exactly?
Writers block, bills piling up, overly friendly landscaper, Fast Eddie with money problems, rumors and gossip galore. Sides drawn in friendships and families. A lot to unpack here.
Yes, really 6th wedding for him....doesn't that intrigue you enough without knowing anything else? Short read.
Read this before you read the Matchmaker. It wasn't listed that way when I got my copy of all her books, so I read them out of order...which wasn't a big deal; but I think less enjoyable than it could have been. Young college kids, two different schools...sparks or not?
To the best of my knowledge that's the end of her books. My understanding is her next one due out shortly will not be about Nantucket and all the familiar places and people. I don't know if that's going to work or not. You get these places and people in your brain. We'll see how it goes.
With all the changes I've mentioned on fitbit, I'm not able to list things as I did in the past. I know I did more walking than normal when we were in Sicily, because many of our tours were walking tours. I can tell I had several days over 14.000 steps and it looks like most of those days were 11-12K. I can tell thus far this year it says my daily average number of steps is 8,412, with February being the highest at 10,597 and August being the lowest at 6,908 (4.39miles and 2.81 miles). So far this month I'm at 3.4 miles and September was 3.5. So, ups and downs. These past 2 weeks, I've mowed a few times, took a walk a few times, but mostly it's been yard work which though exhausting doesn't give you many steps. And with that, I'm going to put on my walking shoes and take myself out for a spin, lol. Then I'll start catching up with you all by blog walking.
I just can't see a kitty or puppy voting for Trump.
ReplyDeleteExactly, they're smarter than MAGA cult.
DeleteWelcome home and I am extremely glad that no puppies or kittens will be voting for Trump. I really need to get into audio books.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Thank you Jackie. As soon as we got home we started thinking about where we want to go next time. Cats and dogs are smart!!
DeleteYay for smart cats and dogs!!
ReplyDeleteNow if only some of people would get as smart it would be a relief.
DeleteWelcome home. From the other side of the world I cannot see how anyone (let alone cats and dogs) can vote for that man. Sadly they will. Fingers crossed.
ReplyDeleteAnd yes, working in the yard is hard and doesn't give you many s
I'm completely at a loss to, to understand how anyone can support him. Got toes and fingers crossed. I love working in the yard, it's therapeutic I think; but doesn't register much on my fitbit, lol.
DeleteWelcome home Sandy! How wonderful you went to Sicily. Great photos! I think we are all going to be glad to see the elections in the rear view mirror. The whole world will be heard giving a collective exhale. I just had a very long conversation with my brother-in-law from over the pond on this very issue. I have a whole collection of political cartoons. They are powerful! Great books also. Thank you :) Fingers crossed!
ReplyDeleteSicily truly was great. I've always wanted to go there and was not disappointed. Yes, we'll be glad when the election is over, but I worry what he'll do one way or another. I know there's never been an election this important, for the world, not just the US.
DeleteSounds like you had a great time walking in Sicily. I look forward to hearing more about that. Petals is looking great and will be perfect by the time you finish crocheting it together. Enjoy your week.
ReplyDeleteThank you, with this cool weather, I've to try and double my efforts to get Petals done to help keep someone warm.
DeleteTidying up the flower beds at the end of summer is a big job. I hope that goes well. Now I'm off to read all about your trip to Sicily💖. Granny Marigold
ReplyDeleteIt is hard work Granny, aside from the leaves I'm happy to say I got it done...for at least another year, lol. Thanks for popping over to check out my Sicily post.
DeleteI do enjoy seeing your afghans - you are so creative with the colour mixes and they look great (but more importantly, they will be so welcomed by their recipients.
ReplyDeleteHave a good week
Best wishes
Ellie
Thank you for your sweet comments. I've got to get Petals finished, the weather has turned for sure and it will be needed.
DeleteHi Sandy, as always love the colors you pick ... you are very creative.
ReplyDeleteWe are just finishing up a big garden project for us. The weather has been unseasonably warm, that has helped in having us getting it done. Yay!
Welcome Home... and one week to go, hopefully we will have the results of the election ASAP!!
Thank you Carla, I have fun putting these pieces parts together to make a one of kind afghan. Glad you had good weather and were able to get the project done. Fingers and toes crossed on the election and hope it doesn't drag on too long. I fear with all the court cases that have changed some of the way votes are counted, it could.
Deletehe cartoons are so funny! And your pink petals is gorgeous! You are talented at this!
ReplyDeleteThank you Ginny. I try to make each one unique. The cartoons are funny, but what they represent scares me and frustrates me. Fingers crossed.
DeleteWhat a PRETTY SHADES OF PINK AFGHAN.
ReplyDeleteIf it is a gift, the recipient will love it.
Hugs cecilia
It will be donated to the Homeless Families Foundation as almost all my afghans are. Glad you like it.
DeleteWelcome back, Sandy!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Halloween, Sandy. Be well.
