Knitted Snail Hallow Shawl, The Hearings, TV Watching, Simon Kenton, Davy Crocket and ...

Moving on into section 2 with the colorworks area. of Snail Hallow Shawl.  No clue why that's the name of the pattern.  You continue to work increases, every few rows.  The blues and purples are so close I'm finding the color work hard on the eyes, and a bit difficult.  I've done color work before, but with heavier yarn and brighter colors.  So, I'm using one of those lights you were around your neck; (Thank you Sandie P) which seems to be helping.  Still though, can't work on this for very long at a time.

A close up of the color works area..  The shawl my daughter is working on from our gifted kits from Craftys has more contrast in her colors; though we both think it's odd that the kit chose variegated yarn which makes it look like your color blocks are a bit off, rather rather than 2 distinctive colors.

A bit of an example.  This is the start of an afghan I made 4-5 ish years ago using lots of color work.  Some sections are 2 colors, some are 3.  Some areas are lots of texture.   Was using up left overs here, thus the huge variety of color; but...see what I mean about how much more the color work shows up with solid colors that aren't close in color?  Yes, that's my broken foot in the picture.  Couldn't get it out of the way I guess when I snapped the photo.  Was non wearing bearing for awhile and used a walker, then was able to walk around in my boot.  No clue where this was in the long multiple month process.

Yes the exercise continues...some days, lol.  We'll see how things are when I count up my month end jazz.  I feel like it's been lighter, due to weather and travel and yard work; but we'll see.

I watch different TV shows when hubby's not around.  I think he would call this a "chick flick".  This movie is from 2004, though I don't ever remember seeing it advertised nor hearing anyone talking about it.  It's on Amazon Prime, and might be on Netflix as well.  I enjoyed it while sipping wine.  I've always liked Christine Lahti, though she's not in that many movies/shows.  Bryan Brown (who you might remember from Cocktail with Tom Cruise) is always a favorite and adds to anything he's in.  Abby Brammell (who I only knew from years later when she was in The Unit), is also in the movie.  The title is a bit misleading.....until it isn't.

Shocked?  A book that's not about World War II, but it is historical.  Very historical!! The Frontiersmen by Allan W. Eckert is absolutely fascinating, all 31 hours of the audio book.  Living in Ohio, who's family hailed from Chillicothe, the stronghold of once impressive Shawnee Village it took on special meaning for me.  There are many places in Ohio and Kentucky where this book travels that I've been to.  As a child Daniel Boone and Davy Crocket were my hero's.  I had a coon skin cap, though as an adult learned that my hero Davy Crocket did not wear one in real life, only in the movies and on tv.  Davy is in the book as well as Simon Kenton.  Simon is the main character and while I knew he was the famous Indian Fighter and from Ohio, which I learned in 7th grade Ohio History ( a favorite class and teacher); I learned much more from this book.  I've been to the outdoor theater Tecumseh and Blue Jacket.  They both loom large in this book as well.  Put this on your list folks.

I've not worked on either of the asymmetrical scarves, as I'm currently focused on The Snail Hallow Shawl, and watching and listening to The Hearings.  January 6th and all that lead up to that.. is .such a dark period in the history of our country and it's democracy.

  1. Kudos to you for execising, and for crocheting lovely items!
Judging by the picture, and by the title (Revenge of the middle aged woman) , the movie looks quite promising.

  2. As a kid I used to watch Daniel Boone on tv, he was played by Fess Parker. Hard to believe I remember, it popped in to my head as soon as I read your post. :)

    1. I did too, his Indian friends name was Mingo. Before that there was the Walt Disney Davy Crocket show, and I can still sing the song. If you enjoyed that, read or listen to the book...I think you'll really enjoy it.

  3. The shawl looks interesting but it does seem tedious! I'll have to look for that movie on Netflix. Sounds interesting!

    1. Let me know what you think if you watch the movie. Tedious is a good word to describe the shawl. Working on it during daylight helps a lot; but often that's not when I have the time to sit down and work on it, lol

Sent this same comment through the Name and URL as requested but I am not sure that works for me.

I, too, have spent time with my projects while watching the hearings, and I agree - a very dark period in our history - I personally fear we are still in that darkness as more and more disturbing facts are revealed. Let’s hope we come out of this as a stronger more unified nation ... however long that takes.

    1. Shoot. Not sure why your name and url aren't working. Perhaps you can do a hyperlink, so I know whom you are and can visit your blog back. I can't show you here how to do a hyperlink, as it would turn into a hyper link and you'll not see the actual code. This is the best I can do. without the space I'm leaving, trying not to make this a link. Right after the >you put the name of your blog followed by (again without spacing) If these directions don't work, try google for hyperlink. Or contact me via the contact link on this blog and I'll help you. Thanks for the visit and I so agree. So much is coming up about Jan 6, it's frightening and then some.

Oh no a broken foot. Ouch. I hope and prayer your healing is progressing steadily. Nothing broken here but I have a medial collateral ligament strain. Yep I got that walking way too vigorously on and EMW

  11. I hadn't heard of that movie, but I'll definitely check it out. Even though there are so many shows, I feel like it's an abundance of nothing! We're watching Gentleman Jack on HBO max, which is a quirky period series about a female landowner who prefers the ladies. I wasn't so sure about it at first, but it's kind of grown on me.

Glad that you are able to move a bit in the boot! I had a broken ankle and foot last summer, so I feel your pain.

  22. That's a lovely shade of blue, but it's a shame the colours make it difficult to work on. I love the hamster wheel cartoon too - there may be a piece of equipment which has cloths and books sitting on it here too! I seem to be better just using a yoga mat - that does get used for the purpose it was intended.
I've been gardening today and any exercise helps, doesn't it?

  23. I think it’s amazing the works of beauty you can do with yarn and a crochet hook. It is crochet? My daughter in law makes some really nice things too and I admire that. I never learned to crochet well but there’s still time I guess. It be nice winter projects. I make cards but haven’t in awhile and my eyes don’t work like they used to. I need some glasses for up close work. The move and book sound interesting.

  26. Such a pretty color for the shawl. I remember when a man cam to my elementary school when I was around 6 years old. He wore the skin cap and told us his tale. Our teacher thad introduced him to us as Davy Crockett. We truly believed it. Looking back on that now, I highly suspect that it was really just her husband...in a cunning disguise.

  27. Glad you like the head lamp. Some colors are just so hard to work with. That may be my old eyes. I also was a Daniel Boone, Davy Crockett fan back in the day. I didn't have a coonskin cap tho. I can still hear the theme song in my head!
