Knitting, Voting, Audio Books and Exercise

Picked up the blue and white corner to corner blanket again.   You can see  HERE how much it's grown.  The blue section has been completed and the 2nd white section, and now onto another blue section.  The decrease has also been started, so am now over half way with this.

Oh Ohio!   What hot mess.  I know it's been discussed in some detail around the country.  Ridiculous amount of Republicans running for one spot, all but one trying hard to get the endorsement of "the orange one" , which tells you how pathetic the race was.  All we can hope for now is the author of Hillbilly Elegy doesn't win in the election.  Sad to me that he won the primary for that party, given how dysfunction he is.  Several of the debates almost came to fist fights between the Republicans.  Anyway, did my part yesterday and voted against them all.

Haven't done anymore work on the pretty asymmetrical scarf pictured in the last post.  Nor anymore work on the brown afghan.

My yoga mat on top of my Life Board.  I did much better in April with Yoga.  March was only 2 x, April was 8 x and in March the sessions were 30-35 minutes, in April 30-45 minutes with a total of 367 minutes or 6.11 hours.

PLANKS...I did them 9 x in April, which is the same as in March.  No going backward which is good, plus the last couple of days in March I increased the time from 4 x 40 seconds with 11 seconds of rest to 4 x 45 seconds with 13 seconds of rest.  So, that brings up to 3 minutes of planks.  I did side planks a few times which is the same as March.

WALKING...I jumped from 9 walks in March to 12 in April (which includes a couple of times mowing the yard). Fitbit says 128.34 miles which is up from March at 104.61.  I had 2 days of 8 miles.  April's mileage is the best of 2022 so far.

Elie Wiesel's "Night", is a memoir of his life in 1944 and 1945 in Auschwitz and Buchenwald.  Parts of heart breaking, parts are inspiring as so many of these stories from Nazi's horrific treatment of the Jews and others they didn't side with Hitler.  While many of these books from WWII aren't pleasant or fun or light reading; they are important.  We must NEVER forget what happened so that we may keep it from happening again.  History must be our teacher and our moral compass.

Can anyone identify these yellow flowers?  I spotted them on a recent walk through the neighborhood.  I know they're a perineal from a brief conversation with the homeowner who happened to be out in his yard.  He told me what they were, but I didn't remember by the time I got home, darn it!  He said I could come and get a start if I wanted.  I might take him up on his kind offer.  Now to remember which corner I was on.  I rarely walk the same route, and when walking get engrossed in listening to my book...so it may take me some work to locate this corner again.

  1. I'm not sure what those flowers are. I'd have to take a closer look. They're pretty, though!

  2. I really like the blue and white ombre colouring off the blanket - it reminds me of a Spring sky. I think the plant may be a wallflower (erysimum) which come in some beautiful colours and flower at this time of year (May) in the UK. They are a short lived perennial (2 -3 years) but are apparently easy to take cuttings from.
    Best wishes

    1. Thanks so much Ellie for the flower information, much appreciated. I'll look them up. Think I have the perfect spot to plant some. Thanks also for the kind comments about the blue blanket. I had intended to give the multi colored one to my great niece, but think I'm going to try and get the blue one finished and give her this one instead. It's very soft and light weight, which I think will be better.

  3. I think Ellie (above ) is right they do look like wallflowers, the ones we have here grow in the bottom of the wall in preference to being in the garden where they have seeded from but they do come back each year:)

    1. Many thanks. I was able to look them up and think you're both right. Thrilled to find out what they are and plan to pick up some seeds. Think they would be a nice addition to one of my flower beds.

  4. Hello Sandy,

  5. Thank you for highlighting Elie Wiesel's book, Sandy. It means a lot, and that's an understatement.

Good for you to keep going with the planks. I'm pushing myself to do the same - not easy stuff.

    Take good care, Sandy.

    1. I want people to read these important stories. We must educate ourselves and keep such hideous things from happening again. Right you are, the planks aren't easy, but I'm trying really hard to keep at it.

  6. Sandy...here is a trick to help ID a photo you see online. If you use chrome browser, long press the image in question

Then scroll to find Google Lens and click on it. It will search and identify (like your wallflower)

This past week we had July weather in May.
Then last night a cold front came thru.
I took a wonderful 50 min walk around my neighborhood today which has hills. Felt good and such a nice breeze
    Happy Thursday

    1. Good to know about them being invasive. The spot I want to plant them is a spot un-connected to others, and surrounded by cement so think it will work out. Fingers crossed.

    1. Thank you for letting me know. I'll shy away from that one in the future. I did even make it medium sized, as I thought regular was really too small. I wasn't real fond of this blanket when I started out, so kept going back to work on the bright colored one...you know me and colors. But, as I've continued this; am liking it more and more.

  15. What I meant to say is.......I would not be able to get up from that yoga mat. =) I'm thinking wallflowers, too. Did you get a chance to smell the fragrance? If they have a beautiful scent then I would put my money on them being wallflowers. I have been watching the circus that is the Ohio elections all the way down here. Goodness it's crazy there. I find it all fascinating and more often than not, quite sad. I have read a few books about the holocaust of late and though all are tragic I believe all these stories need, and deserved to be read. I haven't as yet read Night but I remember watching a documentary about Elie Wiesel...so powerful. Your blue blanket is beautiful.

    1. I didn't get a chance to smell the flowers, but read sometimes flowers don't have as much scent when it's not warm and so I wonder if that might have been why I didn't notice anything. I don't get up from the mat super easily, but as I continue to do the yoga it's definitely getting easier. Totally agree with you how sad the circus of it is. I need to look for the documentary about Elie Wiesel, thanks for mentioning that. Thanks for kind comments.

  16. Good for you for the walking you are doing! Not sure about the flowers but I'm not really a plant or flower person :) I agree with your thoughts about reading and knowing about the time of WW2 and the Holocaust. I know the Jewish people have it pretty much ingrained in their hearts "never again."

    1. Thank you Betty for the encouragement on walking and your visit. "Never Again" needs to be universal. Sadly, we have people in our midst who say the whole thing didn't happen. Deniers spread their vile lies.

  17. Hello Sandy,
The flowers are beautiful, I see above you have help with the id. Thanks for the book review, I will add it to my TBR list. Hubby and I are out walking every day. I like your yoga mat and the pretty blanket. Take care, have a great weekend.

    1. Glad to hear you and hubby are walking daily. I try to do walking classes through Silver Sneakers on days when the weather is too lousy to get out and walk...sadly, today looks to be one of those. It's dark, ugly, and very wet. Rained all night and is still raining.

  18. We had local elections here yesterday. We're lucky that our local councillor is a local man who cares a great deal for the area. He's an independent and gets my vote every time because he takes on local issues. It's funny, you only ever see the other parties when it comes round to election time, trying to grab your vote, none of them want to take on local issues. I see others have suggested wallflowers, they certainly look like them to me.

    1. Right you are Jo about the politicians not really getting involved day to day in local activities. I've gotten so I rarely vote for an incumbent for exactly that reason. Thanks for the confirmation on Wall Flower

  22. Well done on voting! It's such an important thing to do. My friend's son got elected as a local councillor this year. He's very young so it's a great achievement for him.
I agree about wallflowers, we have them in our garden. They seem to be quite robust and self-seed which is good. I like free plants!

  23. That's pretty cool about your friend's son being elected. I never understand why people choose not to vote. Free plants sounds like a winner to me for sure.

  26. You've done well with your yoga and planks! Puts me to shame. I always find it hard to get back into a fitness routine after getting over a cold or flu. I lose momentum. But I'm starting to feel inspired again. Whenever I don't know a flower, I use my free Picture This app to identify it for me. It's quite accurate!
