Walking, Watching, Reading and of Knitting of Course

Took this photo one day recently while out on my daily walk.  I thought it was so cute, colorful and a great way to decorate for a party, whatever the occasion.  I liked the display of all the pretty colored whirl-a-gigs and thought it worth a snap shot.  We're at the time when most of our flowers have stopped blooming and things need to trimmed, leaving the yard rather bland looking...before it get's super ugly and brown, followed by...the dreaded white stuff.  I shan't say the word I so dislike it.  I'm thinking about (when the Vertigo is gone and I can get back out to do the yard work...spreading some colorful whirl-a-gigs throughout the flower beds for some color.  What think you?  Yeah or Neh?

Hubby and I just finished watching this series.  All 3 season, and really enjoyed it.  HATE the way it ended, and that there will not be a season 4, so much was left up in the air.  ARgh.  Did you watch?  Did you hate the ending?  Where you disappointed about no season 4?  It seemed season 4 was anticipated when 3 was wrapping up.  Thought it was interesting that Kiefer Sutherland was the lead actor and the publisher.

It may not look all that different from the previous post/picture, but it's 3 inches more knitting, which isn't too shabby given it's sock weight yarn.  The section completed is without the drop stitches where it's more solid.  Will be starting more drop stitches....the open lacy part.  How long do you all make your shawls?

Have recently started reading Michelle Obama's book.  Started it on a recent vacation.  For Christmas I bought the hardback for my daughter who prefers books over e-books, and bought myself the e-book version, which I prefer.  I'm not a big reader.  She LOVES to read.  I find the time others might use for reading, I'm reading or writing blogs or knitting.  But, what I've read so far, I've enjoyed.  A great deal about her growing up years and the friends and family in her Chicago neighborhood.  Have your read it?  Did you enjoy it?

Speaking of Walking, you notice I have a badge in my right side bar that shows what trails I'm virtually walking on Walking 4 Fun.  It's connected to my Fitbit account and automatically sync's my steps/miles there.  Additionally, I have connected my  Achievement (CLICK HERE), account to Fitbit where again steps are automatically synced.  Achievement is a research sight, you have the option to participate in health type questionnaires/surveys for additionally points.  The bottom line is you can make money from your physical activities.  The money you make can be donated as well.  So there are many options.  The app is simple and very straight forward to use.  Click above where it says click here to join, and let me know if you do.

  1. I read and enjoyed the Michelle Obama book. I am a big fan of the Obamas, even bigger now by comparison to our current first family. I am also on the Appalachian Trail - Walk4Fun app. It is great fun. My walk totals have been dismal. Need to get better.

    1. Thanks for the visit, always nice to see you and glad to hear you're using your steps over on W4F. It is fun, though I am behind looking at pictures and making comments in the log. Way behind. Also for the past week behind due to the vertigo in the actual walking but hope to get back soon. Hope you do too. Glad to hear you enjoyed the book, maybe I'll get busy and read some more later today after my Doc appointment.

  2. I've heard good things about the Michelle Obama book but haven't read it myself, I may do though. What a colourful garden, it looks so pretty with all those lovely decorations.

    1. I thought they were pretty too, though still haven't actually gone out and purchased any of the whirl-s-gigs myself like I planned. Thanks for the visit.

  3. Money from stepping? Crap, I've been missing out. After 4000 km in the last two years, at least, I could be rich.

I found the first season of Designated Survivor to be pretty good, but the show could never really decide what it wanted to be. Probably because they changed showrunners 4 times or so.

    1. Pat, go sign up and let me know how it goes with your stepping. I didn't like the way show ended with stuff in the air, darn it. They had a lot of story lines going on, but it was good food for thought when we focus so much on whom the Pres is and forgot the line of whom could end up in the spot under certain circumstances. Like who the VP is, speaker etc.

  4. Sorry you are still experiencing the vertigo. Admittedly, I still am too. Overall, I'm back to normal, but once in a while, I get a total room swirl our of the blue. Sigh. I keep meaning to read Michelle Obama's book but haven't yet. Just a thought -- go for an audiobook! Listening to audiobooks while you knit is fantastic. Makes the knitting go faster. And I've heard that book is well read by Michelle Obama herself? Great on the knitting! Fingering weight always goes slowly, doesn't it?

    1. Love the idea of knitting and listening to the book at the same time Margaret. Thanks for the idea and visit. Sorry you still sometimes get the Vertigo...does it go away quickly after the room swirls?

I am a reader, and prefer books to e-readers. And love your creativity.

    3. Sometimes if you google the problem, you can see if it's been reported as an issue/gliche that they're working on.

  7. Dear Sandy
I like the celebration windmills/whirligigs - but then I really like colourful things. It's very much a matter of personal preference, I think. I love to read and enjoy both my kindle and 'real' books. The kindle is great for travelling or taking to work, but for me, it can't compete with craft books or art books, or anything where you need to see good quality illustrations.
The shawl is coming along nicely and I hope your vertigo eases off.
    Best wishes
    Ellie

    1. Thanks so much Ellie for your visit and kind words on the shawl. Each day I feel a bit better, just wish it were gone gone and am hopeful it doesn't come back again. Quite frustrating. Totally agree with craft books, knitting or crochet instructions you really need a real book.

  8. Love the idea of adding color with the colorful whirl-a-gigs. I think I saw one or two episodes of Designated Survivor. I like Kiefer but glad I didn't watch more if it had a poor ending. I like shows that wrap it up nicely and would have been annoyed. As to reading, I go in spurts. Ebooks have become almost as expensive as paper books so I get them from library when I see one that interests me enough to forego crocheting to read or is available as an audiobook so I can crochet AND "read". :-)

    1. I need to try the audio book thing so I can knit or crochet at the same time. Do you do that through the library?

  9. Thanks for stopping by my blog and checking in. Things are much better. I now want to read Michelle Obama's book; I also purchased it for my daughter for Christmas. I did read several books this summer. But I have not watched the Designated Survivor. Perhaps I should.
