Heirlooms

fine family chinaDo you have family heirlooms? These hand painted dished are one of mine. This is a marvelous set for 12 with all the serving pieces. They were given to me years ago by my Great Aunt Irene. She was my Dad's Aunt. Click to see the dishes, they're sooooooo pretty. I always loved them. Very light mellon creamy background with colored flowers, and pretty gold and red boarder. I use to use them alot. My Aunt always said she liked to give things away when she was still living so she could see people enjoying things. Then a friend said it made him nervous when I used my good dishes and so they got put away. They weren't easy to get to-- to use; so it's been awhile since I've enjoyed them. A couple of years ago I got my first dining room set, which included a hutch. I'm thrilled to get to display my dishes. The last time Daddy came for Sunday dinner, I decided we use our nice china.

The cool Italian wine glasses I got Christmas before last from my Dear SIL, in our gift exchange. Look how beautifully they go with my dishes! We fixed a special meal, used our special china and had the special wine glasses. A good evening for sure.

  2. Now that sounds like a fun idea Jan. I think I might still have some homemade butternut squash ravioli's? Will figure out something.

The glasses do look great with the dishes.

  3. YOUR DISHES ARE EXQUISITE, HOW FORTUNATE YOU ARE. I HAVE A VASE (PINK GLASS-YOU CAN SEE THROUGH THE GLASS) IT'S OVER 100 YEARS OLD. I HATE TO PUT FLOWERS IN IT BECAUSE IT'S SO FRAGILE. TAKE CARE, RIZZI

  4. What a beautiful set Sandy! I'm glad you started to use them again. Although I admit I save my best dishes for only special occasions, I think it's a shame to put nice things into hiding. It's such a shame when beautiful things can't be appreciated.. Your wine glasses are very pretty and go perfectly with your dishes! Your SIL did well!... Hope you're enjoying your weekend! ~tina

  6. These are right up my alley. I love the soft, muted colors on the creamy background. This must, along with the goblets set a beautiful, elegant table.

  7. My grandmother used to collect China ("Nippon") pieces...odds and ends and my china cabinet is full of her collection. I rarely use any of it, but I could never part with any of it.

You are very fortunate you have a complete set. Lovey china set. I have parts of my grandmother's blue orchid dinner ware. Unfortunately it tested positive for lead and we cannot use it. I think she got the pieces when she went to the movies. Does that sound familiar to you?

  10. We have some pieces of art from maharaja ranjit singh's time ( apparently). Thats would date them over 150yrs plus. Would anyone know of who i could go to to know more about the significance of this artwork as well as legal aspects of what heirlooms can be retained by family and what must be declared. Any suggestions would be appreciated..
