January, Projects, Books, Memes and Stuff

Not sure why the colors on this are so off.  I tried to edit it but, that didn't help.  It looks like there's orange and yellow in the squares.  This is Peppermint that you probably remember from my previous post.

These are the true colors.  The pictures are oriented differently, as the 1st picture is on a twin bed, and I'm limited with space.  The mint green yarn I'm edging with those is really pulling it all together.  I plan to do a large border around it, as it's a bit on the smaller size, and perhaps end with a ruffled or scalloped edge........will see how the volumn of yarn holds out.

These colors are a little off too, but not much.  It's just a bit darker in this picture.  We're having a very cloudy day here, so guess that makes since.  When I posted this corner to corner project last it measured 26 in diameter and it now measures 41 inches.  I had 83 stitches on the needles in the previous picture and now have 138....so, some good progress.  You can see the darker ball of yarn which if this becomes an afghan will be the middle section.  My plan is to continue with the lighter version and see how big it is before deciding if it will be a shawl with just the current lighter version or an afghan blending the 2.

I'm embarrassed to say I didn't know Goodreads had these cute graphics with ones stats at the end of the year.  As many years as I've been using Goodreads, I never looked.  I've not yet made a goal for this year, trying to decide if I want to or not.

This was probably the best one in that it shows you your reading pattern?  I thought perhaps I should get a lottery ticket with my double numbers, lol.

This was a short read, only 3 hours for the audible version, which I highly recommend, as it's read by the author and she has a really lovely voice.  I found, We Should All Be Feminists extremely interesting.  Would love to know if any of you have read it and what you thought.

I've read a good number of serious/heavy topic books of late and decided I needed a little fluff to clear my head.  Yes this is a beachy, love story........but, the twist is the baggage many families carry.  Highly recommend this book who's back story is long long standing friendship and Invitro, and cancer.  So...not really a total fluff book.

Told you I had been reading serious content of late.  This is a true story folks.  I've read a lot about WWII, the war, the camps, the Nazi's, women code breakers; but didn't know much about the Dutch Resistance.  "Seducing and Killing Nazis" by Sophie Polderman is a very interesting and educational read.  I highly recommend it.

Bimbo Barbie is truly disgusting.
AND some memes I thought worth sharing.  AND Where are the EPSTEIN files!!

I stand with Ukraine and Greenland!

The end of Christmas, packing stuff up for another year.  All of this took place before we left town for the winter, so my post is not in chronological order.

    1. I was surprised by that, but I guess it's because I listen to my audio books while walking and doing yard work, which I do more in the summer. Yes, it's been warmer here in SC, so that makes me a happy camper.

  3. What a difference between those two photos of the crochet squares. I think they both look good.
You read some interesting books in 2025 so thank you for sharing them here. I hope you find lots of other good books this year.

    1. The change in color bugs me, but sometimes things just show up weird in pictures. Hopefully as the ghan progresses the pictures will be more true to color. Getting sorta a slow start with the books this year, but hope to settle in.

  4. Love your squares and they will make a nice afghan. I just finished a book about the codebreakers, Bletchley Park: WWII Codebreaking Centre. It was pretty good. Have a great week.

  5. I think I've tried to get Bletchley Park must look at my list. That's right up my alley. I find that period of history and all the things people did to support the effort fascinating. Thanks Bill.

  6. I like how you can see how many books you read in a given month. I haven't read any of the ones you mention.
I've enjoyed the Charles Todd books ( until this latest one) and like both the Rudledge protagonist and Bess Crawford.

    1. Bess Crawford...thanks for the name. It was bugging me I couldn't remember her name. Yeah I thought it was fun looking at the stats as well, and their cute graphics are kinda fun.

  7. Hi Sandy,
First to answer your question from my blog. The oranges took just over 4 hours to dry at 250 degrees in the oven.

Thank you so much for the book reviews, I always appreciate them.

    1. You apparently didn't read my blog since you made no comment on it. It's rude to go to someone's blog and tell them to come to your blog when you've not read the blog or commented in anyway about it.

  12. The 'mint' colour in your crochet is lovely. Looks good.
I've seen that book somewhere, 'Under the Southern Sky, must of been in the Kindle store or somewhere like that.

    1. The Libby app and Good reads really helps with that. And even with that, I've been known to start to check out a book and then see the note that I've already borrowed it. You just can't remember them all.

  16. Peppermint is looking fantastic, even with the camera trying its best to lie about the colors. The true-color shot with that mint green edging really makes everything pop, and a big border with a ruffled or scalloped edge sounds like it’s going to be gorgeous when you’re done. The corner-to-corner project has grown a ton too – can’t wait to see whether it decides to be a cozy shawl or a full-on afghan in the end.

    1. Thanks so much, both projects are coming along; but slower than I anticipated. I've been spending more time outside walking and when inside reading the news..........and sadly, you know much news there is to read.

  17. It can be so difficult to get true colours to show in photos during the winter when light levels are so low, it's a struggle. I enjoy seeing my reading stats, I don't set myself goals but it's always interesting to watch out for patterns.

    1. Right you are about the lights in winter. I know the pattern where I did the same 2 months in a row several times surprised me.

  18. I always think it’s good to intersperse one’s reading with a little ‘ fluff’ as you call it. I often do that! 😁 Thank you for your comment on my blog. Sal

    1. Totally agree on crying or laugh. It's a hot mess and I don't see things getting any better. We just have to try and not loose our minds.

  20. "We Should All Be Feminists" -- I bought a copy (hardback, even!) shortly after it was published and then the author gave some interview where she made the most horrible anti-trans statements. I was so disgusted, I threw the book away without even reading it.
