Knitting, Exercising, Audio Books

Lots of growth on the blue corner to corner blanket.  In the last picture I had just barely started the decrease and the 3rd blue section.  Since then that blue section has been completed and another white section and now I'm back to another blue section, the 4th.  May Gift Link Up
I believe I decided this will make a better baby blanket then my previous corner to corner with so many colors.

From time to time I've shared some of my fun cocktail napkins.  I'm always on the search for some I've not had before.  My favorite in this group of 4 is the lower left, "A day without wine is like...just kidding I have no idea..

We tend to eat lighter in warmer months.  Less meat and potatoes and more veggies!  These veggies were yummy and surely healthy.  Mushrooms, onions, lots of different colored peppers salt, pepper, olive oil, and garlic.  The left side of the cookie sheet is cut up butternut squash, salt, pepper, olive oil and cinnamon.   I don't remember whether we had pork tenderloin or chicken with this the night I took the picture.  Bake on 400 for about 20 minutes stir and another 5 or 10 based on how soft the squash is and how caramelized you like your veggies.  Enjoy!

Pulitzer winning book, "All The Light We Cannot See", by Anothony Doerr.  I understand there are plans for this to be a mini series on Netflix; but I don't know when that's suppose to happen...or if it already has.  The book is another WWII book.  Initially in Paris you're introduced to Marie-Laure a fascinating blind girl who lives with her father.  He does a wonderful job helping her see.  They escape to the walled citadel, Saint-Malo in a tall house by the sea.  I don't want to give more away, please add this to your book list and see how a blind girl meets up with a Nazi Boy.

Am continuing with walking, yoga and planks, though in the last handful of days have opted for mowing and lots of yard work over planks.  So, we'll see how the month shapes out.  We're about half way through.  Thought you might get a kick out of the meme.

  1. Hi Sandy! I got a kick out of your cocktail napkins. When I see funny ones in stores, I pick up a pack or two to give friends for birthdays. I love roasted veggies. My favorite is crispy broccoli.

    1. You probably can, just start with a short time and build gradually. I think often people just try to do too much and then get discouraged. I found the straight arm plank better for me, and the lower plank really hurt my elbows.

  3. How cute with the cocktail napkins! We bought some a few years ago, but now of course I can't remember what they said :) I tried to read that book "All the Light We Cannot See" a few years back but could not get into it. Might have to try it down the road again. Yum on that butternut squash meal! Looks so delicious!

    1. Try an audio book, I find the voices really add to the interest of the book; particularly where other accents are appropriate.

  6. I am loving the blue blanket - the ombre looks so pretty. The veggies looked really colourful and I'm sure they were delicious. I have read 'All the light we cannot see' and it made a big impression on me, particularly some of the descriptions of the aftermath of WWII. There was a book programme with an interview with the author on Radio 4 (UK) last year which was really interesting. It took him ten years to write it.
    Have a good week.
    Best wishes
    Ellie

    1. Thanks Ellie. Glad you too enjoyed the book. I know what you mean about the aftermath of the war. So much is involved in rebuilding, healing etc.

  7. Smiling at that cocktail napkin. What an admission. I have started All the Light We Cannot See a few times. And haven't (yet) given up.
Love that blanket of yours - and yay for the exercise.

  8. The napkins are good fun, a talking point at parties. I've read All The Light We Cannot See, a WWII book from a totally different perspective. I enjoyed it but something I just can't put my finger on was missing for me. I thought perhaps it might be the writing style which just didn't gel but I really don't know.

    1. Yes, cocktail napkins are often fun talking points at parties. Many of my friends take pictures of my napkins. I try to have a good mix of them and people like to read them all before taking one, lol. The book was indeed a different perspective; though it got me thinking about the number of people with disabilities and how different the war was for them.

  9. Hello,
Love the cocktail napkin funnies, the bottom right is cute. The roasted veggies are my favorite, I wish I could get my hubby to eat more veggies. I have to see if my library has this book. Take care, enjoy your day. Have a great new week!

    1. Maybe if you could find a different way to cook the veggies you could get hubby on board?

  10. Hi Sandy, I like your cocktail napkins; they make me smile with their cute sayings.
I find that roasting veggies is one way we will actually eat them ( and enjoy them). Another way is in veg soup but that's more a cold weather meal ( not that we;ve had much of that yet).

I loved that book--I can't imagine that the show will be able to capture how it made me feel!

  12. I can, maybe, hold a plank for 30 secs. It's tough stuff, but so is mowing and yard work. :)

    1. 30 seconds is better than not at all. Try it for a week, then add a couple of seconds. Steady as you go. A bit here and a bit there. Takes me a lot longer to get the yard work done now then it did a few years ago, lol. But, I keep plugging along. Thanks for the visit Bea.

  13. Hi, we eat more veggies too, fresh from the garden. We enjoyed a spinach salad with radish, topped with sliced turkey, feta cheese and a few pecans.
All The Light We Cannot See, yes, for sure a must read. It is one that sticks with you after reading.

  15. First of all I apologize for my long silence and I thank you for the kind comments. Difficult times here. The pain didn't go away and after another magnetic resonance I discovered that I have 2 injured lumbar vertebrae (L2 - L3) and not "only" one. Now I feel better even if the recover is slow. At the moment I alternate walking and short runs, I do physiotherapy and I try to recover the muscle tone of the back by physiotherapy and planks.
The cocktail napkins are very nice.
You are right, in this season we have to eat many vegetables and fruit: your veggies look delicious.
As you know I like the books about the WWII and that book sounds interesting.

  18. Hello Sandy, I have dabbled with both knitting and crochet over the years with some semi success. Your blanket looks like it's going to be soft and cosy. That book is one that has been on my "to read" list for a long time. I will may have to give it a try soon. Working on increasing my veggie intake mostly with more salads as my hubby prefers raw to cooked, but working on it. Roasted vegetables are delicious! It was nice meeting you on my blog. Thank you for stopping by.

    1. Yes the blanket is quite soft. I knit a lot, but never anything very complicated. I like to relax while knitting. As you can see from quite a few of the other comments on the blog, lots of folks really enjoyed this book, so hope you do as well. I like both raw and cooked, but prefer cooked veggies...seems more like more of a side dish to me than raw veggies...beyond a salad.

  25. We too eat far more vegetables than before, simply because we have cut back on meat so much, having pretty much abandoned red meat entirely, and seriously cutting back on portion sizes of others, even fish. I have no doubt that were we younger we would become vegetarians.
