Ta Dah, another afghan finish. Had a few ideas as to the name for this, but had initially thought I would use both blue and pink/mauve to size (edge) and join the squares. Changed my mind and went with all blue. It's such a pretty shade of blue so have named this one Blue Bird. Anyone immediately singing Mr. Blue Bird on my shoulder?Zip-a-dee-doo-dah, zip-a-dee-ayMy, oh my, what a wonderful dayPlenty of sunshine headin' my wayZip-a-dee-doo-dah, zip-a-dee-ayMister Bluebird's on my shoulderIt's the truth, it's actualEverything is satisfactual.....and so it goes. A Disney classic for sure.I added a little scalloped edge to the afghan on this one. A little different than the ruffle on Peppermint the previous afghan. You might need to click on the picture to enlarge it to see the scalloped edge.
Christmas is past, but this meme still seemed appropriate to share.
Oh how I wish I could say this wasn't true, but sadly this is right on the mark. This one just made me laugh.107 Days by Kamala Harris. I LOVED this book. And the fact that the audio book is read by her made it even better. Her code name was Pioneer, seems most appropriate as she is the ONLY woman to ever be elected as Vice President. She is the ONLY person ever to have ONLY 107 to campaign for the Presidency. I can't help but think, if Biden had made the decision earlier, she could have won and we would have had the FIRST Woman President EVER. AND aside from all the historic importance of that, we would not be dealing with the world hating us, we would not be having sleepless nights from fear and worry about the horrible state of things. I gave this book 5 stars and Goodreads average rating currently is 4.30.

You all know by now I like books with strong female characters, and boy does Becoming Madam Secretary by Stephanie Dray hit the mark! Frances Perkins changed history. She was the first woman Cabinet Member and the longest serving Labor Secretary. She worked with children in Hells Kitchen, she was active in Greenwich Village and met lots of influential politicians and artist. She had a 20 year friendship with FDR and was his most trusted lieutenant . I gave this book 5 stars and it's current average on Goodreads is 4.45

This book Cultish by Amanda Montell was recommended when I listed I had read The Cult of Trump in a Libby Group on FB. So I nabbed it right after finishing The Cult of Trump. I found this book a bit disappointing though it did have lots of information about cults in general., and what makes something a cult. She discussed things like Amway, brand type cults, Scientology, and of course the trump cult. I found some of her statements rather dismissive about the dangers of cults. She seemed to think it was pretty common for people to fall into them. I'm not sure I agree with that premise. I gave the book 3 stars, it's Goodreads current average is 3.80.
I LOVED this book, Lula Dean's Little Library of Banned Books by Kirsten Miller is fun and funny, but at the same time hits on a very series problem which seems so appropriate to read right now with the influx in book banning by the far right. I gave it 5 stars and Goodreads is 4.05.**Seems I rated 3 of these 4 books higher than Goodreads, so if you read any of them, you'll have to let me know if you agree with my ratings or theirs.

Recently had a nice Chocolate Martini at one of favorite restaurants, CQ's here on Hilton Head Island in Harbor Town. YUM!!Some pretty flowers from awhile ago, that I kept forgetting to share with you from Dear Hubby.
Hi, Sandy. Thanks for the visit. I am not a knitter nor do I crochet but I listen to audio books and I am devastated by what is happening in the US. So those are certainly common threads. No pun intended!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the visit Sandra, I enjoy meeting new bloggers. We have 2 strong connections, books and our feelings about the current mess we find ourselves in here in the states. 3 common things if we count our names. I'll get you added to my blog list.
DeleteLove the colours in the afghan! Great choices! I am happy to have found your blog too.
ReplyDeleteThank you Marie, will get you added to my blog list.
DeleteHello Sandy! Thanks for paying a visit to my Tangled Web. I really enjoyed the content of this post. I usually stay out of politics on my blog as I find it exhausting and useless to fight with the MAGA folks who leave rude comments but I confess to being a Bluesky fanatic where I get my daily (hourly) fix of Trump trolling.
ReplyDeleteLove the Afghan. I hold people who can crochet in high esteem because after many, many attempts it still baffles me.
Thanks so much, will get your blog added to my blog list. Appreciate your kind words.
DeleteThe afghan turned out nice. The chicken cartoon gave me a good giggle.
ReplyDeleteThanks Liz. I got a good chuckle out of the chicken meme as well. Glad you enjoyed it.
DeleteYour blanket is just lovely, and I quite agree with the Holy Family hiding out. I would too.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
Thank you Jackie. The nativity should give some folks on the other side food for thought; but I'm not holding my breathe.
DeleteLove the blanket. You sure do read quickly.
ReplyDeleteI’ve become a book listener, that way I can keep crafting. Thank you for visiting me. I’ll definitely be back to read your posts
I wish you had left a name and link to your blog, so I could visit your blog. Please don't post as anonymous. Thanks for the visit. I too like the audio books so I can continue to craft and do other things.
DeleteOops. That was me from the empty nester
ReplyDeleteOh good, glad you came back and left your name. I'll get you added to my blog list.
DeleteI liked the scalloped edge just as much as the ruffles on your last afghan. Blue bird is the perfect name for it.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much, appreciate the feedback.
DeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteThank you for the book reviews, I always appreciate them. I am just finishing Mailman, which I learned about from you. :-)
Thank you!
Happy Valentine's Day my blog friend.
I love the flowers you shared.
So glad you enjoyed that book. I thought it was quite good, and unusual...in that it was something I knew nothing about. Happy Valentines Day to you as well.
DeleteLovely flowers from the hubby! Happy Valentine’s Day!

DeleteYour Blue bird afghan is lovely and will be really appreciated, I am sure. Those are really pretty flowers too. Enjoying the little things is becoming so important with the world as it is.

Ellie
Right you are about enjoying what we can, the shape of the world right now is a mess.
Delete...Sandy, indeed my, oh my, what a wonderful day! I need to pass along your I need to pass along your political commentary!
ReplyDeleteThanks Tom.
DeleteI am not a supporter of this current administration, so I love the political cartoon!
ReplyDeleteGlad you do, we need things to make us smile to keep our sanity.
DeleteBeautiful afghan, Sandy.
ReplyDeleteLearning about Chomsky and others who seemed to have been somewhat above reproach has been a sad eye-opener.
Too many sad eye-openers aren't there these days.
DeleteInteresting book reviews. I agree that not enough serious attention is paid to cults and the methods they use to ensnare people.
ReplyDeleteLet me know if you read it what you think. Thanks for the visit. I agree they are dangerous.
DeleteLOVE the commentary, want a choco martini, and planning to read some of those books!
ReplyDeletethank you!! LeeAnna

DeleteGreat post! I love to crochet. I am so stressed out these days over the mess in our country, I am crocheting around every washcloth and blanket I own!
ReplyDeleteCrocheting does help calm things, the situation in our country right now is horrible, and we wake up this morning learning the jerk in The White House has bombed Iran.
DeleteHello Sandy, here I am for the return visit :-)
ReplyDeleteThe cartoon made me laugh; reminds me of Gary Larson's type of humour.
Kamala Harris' book and the Madame Secretary one sound very much like my cup of tea.
Let me know what you think about the books if you read them. I thought they were both very good. Will get you added to my blog list. Thanks for the visit.
DeleteBeautiful Afghan. I only read non fiction books. I don't have any talent in crafts but I enjoy seeing the creations of those who do.
ReplyDeleteWarm greetings from a retired lady living in Montreal, Canada ❤️ 😊 🇨🇦
I read a bit of both fiction and non fiction. Thanks for the compliment on my afghan.
