Martini's and Face Masks, Strange Times

It's only happened once so far.....but it was nice to sit outside and have cocktails.  Life has been crazy for all of us lately, so this "normalcy" was very much enjoyed.  We love our cocktail hour, and we love to be outside, and so this was a bonus.  Short lived for sure, been cold, windy, and wet pretty much since.  **Edited to add I'm join The Flaunt it Friday Linky Party** A first for me, but sounds fun.  I'm Flaunting my bar tending skills.  Which are so good, truly...even if the bars were opened, we would cocktail at home before going to dinner.

Double thickness, with a pocket where a filter can be inserted, and nose clip.  I've tried multiple times to order masks on line without much success.  Sarah S a lady who's donated through the years for Bridge and Beyond made these.  She sent 2 for me and 2 for my husband........Thank you Sarah S.  These masks are so well made.  I had purchased some from a lady in the neighborhood, but they were too big for me, and too small for my husband, no pocket and no nose clip...soooooooooo appreciate having one that will work for us.  Dr. Brix indicates social distancing is going to be with us for a while...throughout the summer.  So want to be prepared.

Don't know how well you can see this. Remember you can click to enlarge it to see it better.  It's a start, a slow one for another afghan.  20 stitches garter, followed by 20 stockinette and back to garter.   Once I get a good amount done to have a block (every other), then will switch and do stockinette, then garter and back to stockinette.  The 2 small sections at each end are 5 stitches of garter so when the stockinette block is the end block it won't curl.  It's not coming a long very quickly, as the brown is hard to work on at night and even during the day we've had so much rain and gloomy days lately, it's not as easy to see.  When I put this brown yarn in a project bag I wrote the name Brown Marble...but I'm not sure I like that name.  As most of you know, I always name my afghans...suggestions anyone? **Edited to add I got 2 suggestions in the comments thus far, one from Elephant Child who said something about coffee, and one from Ellie Foster suggesting something about chocolate.  I'm not a chocolate lover, so decided I'd go with the coffee idea.  I recently completed an afghan I named Coffee Latte, a mix of browns and variegated.  So settled on Espresso for the name of this afghan.  It's not completely solid brown, but very close and is dark...strong, like Espresso.  Thanks ladies for the suggestion.  AND my knitting would also be something I'm flaunting.

One needs to keep laughing during these strange times.  Now I'm not a beer drinker, but could put a Martini in one room, or perhaps

A Manhattan, and or an Old Fashion
Variety is nice, don't you think!

  1. I am with you about beer. Bleah.
It is ages since I have had a cocktail too. Thinking, thinking, thinking.
I find masks really challenging. Not least because I fog up my glasses when I wear one.
    Stay safe, stay well.
Perhaps your afghan could be named after coffee?

    1. Yeah the fogging is a problem for us glass wearers. I've not heard from anyone who doesn't have trouble with that. I've read keeping your glasses super clean helps, but I don't know, am pretty fanatical about keeping them clean normally anyway. Coffee...I named one recently Coffee Latte, maybe call this one Espresso? Hum...kinda like that idea.

  2. Sandy: I totally agree about he cocktail hour, it is needed to relax daily.
I love the beer bar hop sign so funny.
I hope we are back to normal soon, our State Officials are talking maybe no school for a while next fall.
    Stay Healthy

    1. I know our Governor will be laying out a plan today for businesses, so it's hard to know about schools next year. I'm glad I don't have to deal with that part of things.

  3. I just started an afghan myself. I haven't done one in ages. It is all garter. It is being done in acrylic -because I have a lot of that to use up and it is all double threads on 10.5 needles. So far it is working up pretty nice. It will be a bit larger than a normal afghan
    I think.

Normally I like to do garments with stitch pattern designs, but I can't seem to focus on anything other than simple garter. stitch. I am blaming it on the state of the world!!

    1. Like the idea of double strand and bigger needles to make it go faster. Seeing results of our labors sometimes is very therapeutic in the effort. Totally understand what you mean about concentration and focus. These times are challenging. I'm using basically acrylic also, as that's what so many people have donated and it holds up well for the purpose.

  5. Good that you were able to have an outside martiti hour whilst the sun shone. Our sun has gone today and there is drizzle in the air. I'm not sure where we will get masks if we need them as we come out of lockdown, make them perhaps with old sheets or scarves. It's going to seem strange going out again. Take care:)

    1. Right you about it being strange to go out again. Even then I plan to stay pretty close and not go often. Friends have purchased masks on Esty, you might give that a try.

  6. Dear Sandy
How about something to do with chocolate for your new afghan? I enjoy a gin and tonic occasionally, but white wine is usually my tipple of choice. Your cocktails look very exotic - it almost looks as though you are on holiday!
    Take care
    Best wishes

    1. I love making drinks and think being a bar tender in a quiet adult spot might have been fun; but not now...not at my age, lol. Chocolate Bar perhaps. Hum, that's an idea, thanks.

  7. I can just see myself with a margarita in all rooms in our house...bar hopping works for me. No joke. Lol

I can't think straight now with all the tequila fumes, maybe Apple Brown Betty?

  9. Mmm, how about a Black Russian? That's my favourite cocktail, although I don't discriminate against any other variety either, LOL!

    1. Oh, sounds good. I haven't had a Black Russian in a long time. I'm glad you suggested that. I've got Vodka, but not Kahlua. Need to add that to my list.

  10. Chin-chin, Sandy! The cocktails looks top-notch. Also top-notch is the mask you're wearing. I was lucky to have a friend make me & my hubby masks as well. I am eternally grateful.

    1. Cheers back at ya Bea. Glad you got a good mask, made by a friend as well. I am really happy with how nice they are. Far more comfortable than what I first made with the no sew and hair rubber bands and a bandana.

  11. I'm not one for cocktails, I prefer a glass of wine, but it's nice to have a tipple now and then.
