Red Stone Afghan is now complete, being blocked and drying here. I used some tan, some black, and some red to bring the squares to size and crocheted them together with both red and black. Pleased with how it turned out. Here's the before but oriented differently.A meme, but not a funny one. Some protest signs I like. The 2nd one I really LOVE!
Remember when you were kids and were taught the policeman was your friend.......boy have things turned upside down and ugly.
Fredrik Backman's "My Friends" comes highly recommended though it was not at all what I expected. Dysfunction on steroids, maddening, sad. Friends being more important to young boys then their families. Growing up is hard. The art tie in piece was sorta weird in my opinion. But, saying all that, I did enjoy the book...you find yourself rooting these kids on.
The MAGA Diaries by Tina Nguyen was very disappointing. I thought it might be helpful, that maybe it would help explain the cult a bit, but I didn't feel like it did. She's hardcore MAGA, see's the light I guess, but doesn't really do much about it, IMHO.
The Presidents and the People by Corey Brettschneider was an excellent read. On one hand it gives you hope because John Adams, James Buchanan, Andrew Johnson, Woodrow Wilson, and Richard Nixon were all Presidents who did some pretty aweful things, things that were shady......things that put The Constitution in harms way, and we got through it...I guess that gives one hope.........but, all of them together don't hold a candle to how despicable The Orange Convicted FELON, Pedophile currently in power is. John Adams had a war against the press and prosecuted his critics...sound familiar? James Buchanan Colluded with the Supreme Court (so yet another time in history when our court was severely in the wrong....history does repeat itself. Andrew Johnson a terrible White Supremacist who committed violence against his critics..........just like trump. Woodrow Wilson pushed Jim Crow until it was the norm........going backward from President Grant. Richard M. Nixon........well, like trump thought he had all consuming powers and could do whatever he wanted without any input from Congress. Not to mention the crime that was committed. An interesting read given what we're currently living through.

I love your newest blanket. The colours really pop. I am getting tired of how some of the government officials seem to hate Canada. To have the main negotiator say we will need to accept tariffs on our goods but open up with no tariffs to American goods is really pushing it. Manifest Destiny is no longer something a certain person should be following.
ReplyDeleteGod bless.
I hear ya Jackie. I'm constantly mad it seems. This current regime is destroying so much, it sickens me. Glad you like the latest ghan.
DeleteAnother great post, Sandy, full of thoughtful commentary!
ReplyDeleteThank you Debra
DeleteLovely blanket! Just the colors make you feel warm and cozy! Thank you for the book reviews. That last one sounds very interesting; yes, history does seem to repeat itself, doesn't it?
ReplyDeleteLet me know if you read that book what you think. Thanks for the compliment, much appreciated.
DeleteThe afghan is lovely, the different designs make it so interesting. I've only read one book by Fredrik Backman, A Man Called Ove, I really enjoyed it and would definitely read more by him.
ReplyDeleteThank you Jo, I've got A Man Called Ove, on my list.
Delete...Sandy, I'm on the same page as you are on!
ReplyDeleteGood to know, got my toes and fingers crossed for the midterms that some things will change.
DeleteBeautiful afghan! And it's sad but true that history does repeat itself. I'm pleased that more people are paying attention now, as shown by the No Kings protests yesterday. I share your hope for the midterms--that they will occur, be fair, and have good outcomes. It's a first step on a long road to recovery from this monstrous regime.
ReplyDeleteThank you Shari, totally agree with you about a long road to recovery from this monstrous regime.
DeleteGreat colors put together to make this blanket so pretty. Thank you always for your continued prayers for Sam..
ReplyDeleteThank you for your kind words about my afghan, much appreciated.
DeleteGod bless.
ReplyDeleteThank you Victor. Working continually on more afghans for those left fortunate.

ReplyDeleteThanks Shirley.
DeleteYour Afghan is looking really lovely, well done. The world is in a mess. Good post, Sandy.
ReplyDeleteThanks Margaret appreciate your kind words. Yarn helps me from going crazy with the mess that we're all dealing with now.
DeleteBackman is a hit or miss author for me, I haven't read that one and I'm not sure if I will! Your afghan looks great!
ReplyDeleteBased on that book, not sure I will read other books by Backman. It was just weird I thought. Thanks for the compliment on my afghan.

ReplyDelete"Dysfunction on steroids" - sounds like today's (or perhaps every day's) world, especially with the orange mofo at the helm.
Take care.
I know each day when you think it can't get any worse...he does or says something else. It's been a very long year, and still the cult can't comprehend all the harm he's caused.
DeleteLove the afghan. It turned out great.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much Liz.
DeleteNice afghan I like the colours.
