Harold and The Purple Crayon

One more of my unfinished projects sliding over to the finished objects column. Yippee, the end of the year is almost here and I've made some good headway. I still have 2 ghans in the works, that simply aren't going to get finished this year; a scarf I'm working on for myself (which I plan to finish in time for New Years Eve), and a pair of mittens I need to finish (probably will be the first item in 2010 to be finished). Made one mitten and laid it aside, totally forgot I never finished it's mate.

The credit for the cute name for this preemie blanket for The OddBall Knitters group goes to my daughter who thought of the book when I showed her the purple yarn I planned on using. The stitch I used is Purled Ladder Stitch which is an 8 row repeat. It's soft, as I used Caron Simply Soft yarn. I don't like working with this yarn, though knitting with it is better than crocheting with it. Many love this yarn because it is soft and is classified as worsted weight. Although I don't believe it stays together well, separates easily when working with it which requires one to knit or crochet slower. It also often requires adjustments with gauge because it truly is thinner than most worsted weight yarn. For a baby blanket though, it will be soft. It's now on it's way to Michigan to the next Oddball knitter.

Happy New Year one and all, if you're traveling be safe.

  1. Harold and the Purple Crayon is one of my husband's favorite childhood books. This color is beautiful. I don't knit but admire those who can do both crochet and knitting. Gives you many options.

  2. Nice!! :)
Sorry I haven't been around too much lately!! Been sooo busy with the holidays! I didn't do my usual christmas crochet for the nieces and nephews :( but I did crochet 1 hat and then I knit 2 little hand purses and a scarf. So I managed to find the time to do a few small projects. I'm getting a little better at knitting in the round, still a little awkward with the knitting.
I do have a scarf that I'm knitting that I will probably send for the bridge project, if I ever get it done! :)
And yes, I've been awful with the blogging and visiting :( I should make my new year's resolution to do better! :)

  3. I'm not crazy about Caron's either. It doesn't hold its shape very well.

Happy New Year, Sandy. May 2010 be the best year yet for you.

  4. Hi Sandy. Want to wish you and your family a happy and healthy new year.

I am not a fan of Caron's either. I love the color though. It's coming along quite nicely.

Knitting is so pretty and my New Years resolution is to become at least a proficient beginner at it!

  7. Hello Sandy dear,
Sorry I've not been here this month much but it really hasn't been a good month for me. I though this year would be better but it really hasn't been. I think all my numbness is gone and I really know my dear husband will not ever be here again with me and it hurts , hurts .After the 3 Christmas now I am just trying to maintain and not make others sad . I want all to have joy as long as they can. i will be checking in along but right now I can't really say how often. I need to get something back on needles now the scarves for the abused womens home is finished but not much jumping at me at the moment.
Have a Blessed new year .

  8. I don't know anything about yarn, but think this project is cool. The design shows up good from what I can in the picture. I don't remember the book, but then it was to long ago when I was that age.
