Walmart, why I don't shop there.

I don't shop at Walmart for a variety of reasons:

  • They made a senior citizen a paraplegic
  • They put good small businesses out of business
This came to mind because of the recent incident regarding a crying baby, a man slapping the baby at Walmart. I don't like the store on several levels; but several years ago vowed I would not shop there again.

A senior citizen had a battery in his pocket to be assured of getting the right replacement size. An over zealous security guard followed the man, beat him up when the senior tried to explain the situation. His injuries resulted in his being a paraplegic. This was in our local papers some time back and I just have never been able to get over it. I don't know if the guard lost his job, I certainly hope so.

They take over in small towns, putting wonderful family owned businesses out of business. You know the type where people know people and have served the community for a long time. I really dislike that. Vermont I believe from memory is one of the states that's been successful in keeping them out. From memory I don't know if that was the whole state or just a particular area.

So, I choice to spend my dollars elsewhere; just my personal statement. Certainly hasn't hurt them any; but somehow it makes me feel better not to support them.

  1. If I didn't have to shop at Wal-Mart I wouldn't. That store makes me nuts! Sadly way out here in nowhere after driving 60 miles I am ready to shop anywhere that doesn't require more driving to get there!

  2. Oh my Lord, I never knew that about the older man. I saw that one at Christmas where the customers killed that WalMart man. That was just so sad.
Here in my town they are pretty nice at Our WalMart. In fact (the only job he could get at his age) works as Door Greeter. We had to have the income, our SS is just so small. I know what you mean about shopping at them though. I think Sam would turn over in his grave if he could see what his son has done to his WalMart.

  4. Thanks for stopping by my blog. I will get back to posting eventually. I have a lot to say right now, I just need to find the time.

I'm with you. I don't shop at WalMart, either. The one in our town is a really dingy store, and we have a Target just up the street, so it isn't hard for me to avoid WalMart at all. Take care.

  5. Hi Sandy,
There are occasions where I do go there, usually when I cannot find what I am looking for anywhere else...with all the stores, we still have limited choices..or they all carry the exact same thing...with no variance. I don't like walmart, or big box anything....and Target I can take or leave...they don't sell yarn...what is up with that? They pander to a younger crowd, Walmart crowds are a different matter. So if you are taking a poll...I am not a fan of either of these....We have Giant Eagle up here for grocery stores, don't like them either...BIG BOX, to big, warehousy, music to loud. I prefer smaller, more mom and pop stuff...maybe more of them will spring up, there
    is a need for it...

  7. I have to shop Wal Mart. My store choices for small town family owned are very, very expensive to very expensive. My budget does not allow for either of those choices.
I am thankful for that the Wal Mart came to us locally. If a local store could not keep up, I am sorry but that is not my fault.
